Solved Can not do a repair install for Win 7

I have win 7 X64 ultimate with SP1, it is an upgrade from 7 Pro and was done using a Anytime upgrade disk.

I Did a clean install several months ago and "windows" has some glitches or maybe did not get a good install.

When I select the upgrade option, using the upgrade disk, I get the can not complete, because the installed version is newer than my upgrade disk version.

So I tried to download a Windows 7 ISO with SP1. That did not work because the product key will not verify. I get the same thing with my other computer. Both computers were upgraded with the Anytime Upgrade. That's not to bad because I really don't want to do another clean install.


My gastrations are caused by Home Group and a missing application, "homegroupuser$, a hidden app, that is generated within windows. This being the reason for the repair re-install. ( if anyone wants to go with this, it is supposed to show in Computer management, local users and groups, users).

That's just the Technet piece, not Digital River.

What do you mean by get a verification with 2 product keys

You have to download a version that matches the key(s) you have or it will never activate.

I meant validation, not verification. I have 2 wiin 7 ultimate keys, 1 for each computer and win ultimate is on each computer.
trying to download a wiin 7 ultimate iso with sp1. that's what I have on each computer. Am I missing something or on the wrong track?

Downloaded an ISO, de_windows _7_ultimate_n_with_SP1_X64_dvd_u_677540_ISO_torrent. That may be the wrong 1,so I'll X again.

Downloaded Qtrrent since I did not have a torrent client.

I think I will hold off using it for awhile. I'll have it if I do need to do a clean install. Don't want to do that yet just to fix Homegroup.

Okay I have a silly question.

How does one get two COA keys for Windows 7 Ultimate and not have a Microsoft DVD for Ultimate?

You can not buy a legal Windows 7 COA key buy it's self. Windows keys come with Windows 7 media.

This is from a expert in such matters.

Can buy Windows key without media.

There are NO legal sales of Keys for Windows other than with accompanying software - if you buy from this shop it will almost certainly turn out to be a counterfeit copy. Most such sales will work for a limited period, until the number of activations exceeds the limit, at which time MS will Block the Key from further activations and all current installs will become flagged as non-genuine.
If you've already made a purchase and installed the product I recommend that you visit the Windows 7 Genuine forum and read the Announcements and stickies there - and post an MGADiag report to have the key checked.
