Just upgraded to Windows 7 64 bit. My Media Player in XP played ordinary run-of-the-mill music CDs. My Media Player in Windows 7 64 bit doesn't, even though the help file says it does!?!? Do I need to set something up?

Maybe it's not run automatically when you give a CD at lector. Try to run WMP11 and play CD.

I've got sound - it's primarily a home recording studio PC. My recording software works ok, Windows goiws 'ping' when it needs to and WMPlayer plays all other sound files - just not standard music CDs, but it did a few days ago. It'll take the tracks into the Library and play them there, but it won't play a CD when I put it in to the drive. What's odd and annoying is that my laptop has Windows 7 and Windows Media Player there plays music CDs just fine. What's even more odd and annoying is that my iTunes application now stalls and won't play, but it was ok yesterday!!!

Is there a way to reinstall WMP12?

How about filling in the "My System Specs". It will help someone to try and help you.

I run Sonar X1 on my PC and do not have any problems, however if your recording interface unit is powered on and connected, maybe that is interferring with the regular PC sound card?

I've filled those in fireberd, thanks. I hope they're helpful.
As an experiment I downloaded a free media player and it wouldn't work. I'm really puzzled, when all other sounds are working fine.
I think the next thing is to somehow reinstall Media Player but it's within the W7 install and I don't know how to go about running an install/reinstall.

Do you have the RealTek or the MAudio as the default playback device? If it's the MAudio, change it to the RealTek and try.

Are you using a virtual drive of any sorts? Any kind of DVD decrypting software?

For testing, physically remove the MAudio card, power back on and try with only the RealTek audio. This will prove if the MAudio is somehow interferring, and if not eliminate that as the problem.

After two days of toil I decided I was beaten. I zapped everything and did a(nother) clean install of Windows7. WMP and iTunes now work perfectly. I got no sounds at all while just the Realtek was the sound device but I got all sounds once I installed the drivers for my Delta66. After that I couldn't see anything really different in Control Panel/Sounds/Devices so I guess it was one of those Windows clog up things that come to seriously vex us every now and then. :picnic:

Ok, I'd better carry on reinstalling my forty or so applications (again)... If the same thing happens after that, then out the window the whole lot goes!

Thanks for trying to help, everyone.
