Hi,

I have recently bought a SSD and decided to do a fresh reinstall of Windows 7 Ultimate(64 bit).
I did install windows and then MS office(2007) and proceeded to do all windows updates.
After multiple tries(some updates will fail at first and pass later on) I am down to just two.
I did the following:
- system update readiness tool: it installed fine, no errors reported
- sfc scan: no integrity violations found
- try again windows update: I get error code 800B0100.
The two updates that would not install are:
----Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 for x64-based Systems (KB2931356)
---Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 for x64-based Systems (KB2937610)

I have tried to follow the instructions about CBS folder but to my surprise it was 410 MB. I assumed this is because my previous run of the tool. The content of the folder is shown on cbs folder.jpg file attached. I did remove the CBS_Persist.* files and zipped the rest. It was still 17MB so I split the file in two using winrar.
In order to upload the second file I had to rename the second archive from "CBS - Copy.z01" to "CBS - Copy - Copy1.zip"(upload tool would not allow a z01 file to be uploaded.

Please help,

Emil

CheckSUR shows the following summary...
Summary:
Seconds executed: 1861
Found 439 errors
CSI Manifest All Zeros Total count: 429
CBS MUM Corrupt Total count: 5
CBS Catalog Corrupt Total count: 5
That's a fairly massive set of errors!

It looks, though, as if they are pretty much all from the same update - so may not be too much hassle to fix.
I'll post a fix protocol tomorrow, and we'll see what happens.

I've uploaded a file - en1aa.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive
Please download and save it.
Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Extract all…
Extract to the default location - which will create a new folder en1aa in the same place.
Open this folder - there should be two folders inside it (Manifests, and Packages)

Copy the content of the Packages folder to the folder
C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages

And the content of the manifests folder (.manifest files) into this folder:

C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests

Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

Post the new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file.

Wow, managed to install the two stubborn updates.
The two files attached as well.
Is there something I can do for the future(say change some settings) so updates go smoothly? Sounds a bit ridiculous of not being able to install windows own updates on a fresh install.

Many thanks for all the help.

Here's the CheckSUR summary...
Summary:
Seconds executed: 450
Found 434 errors
Fixed 434 errors
CSI Manifest All Zeros Total count: 429
Fixed: CSI Manifest All Zeros. Total count: 429
CBS MUM Corrupt Total count: 5
Fixed: CBS MUM Corrupt. Total count: 5
Fixed: CBS Paired File. Total count: 5
This type of error is often caused by power failures at a critical time - there's not a lot you can do to legislate for that except to avoid hitting the power button to switch the machine off.

Good luck with this month's updates!
