Hi.

Download the most recent software\driver form Realtek.

Uninstall the realtek software\driver,restart.

Install the realtek software\driver,restart.

Now,in start search copy paste msconfig and check\ensure that you have\enable in System Configuration Start-up list the Realtek Audio Manager.

Then,go to start\control panel, click on realtek (hd) Audio Manager, click the explanation mark, enable the Display icon in notification area, click ok and ok.

Restart.

Hey panais. You may not believe it but whenever I remove Realtek from my system, using the proper procedure and rebooting, and then cleaning all the old remnants from my system, and then installing Realtek's driver, it creates some type of conflict and totally screws up my system, causing me to have to do a System Restore. It caused a black screen problem on more than one occasion. I assume it was due to a conflict, considering Dell has customized the Realtek Audio Manager to include my Sound Blaster X-Fi MB. I don't have the Sound Blaster X-Fi on the Studio XPS 7100 desktop. The Realtek HDA on the desktop uses Dell's R257013 driver while the Realtek HDA on the laptop uses Dell's R300326 driver, even though both systems are running Win 7 Ultimate x64. Actually, I've never seen what the audio manager looks like. On the rare occasion that I'm able to open the audio manager it simply displays a blank window. To make a long story short, I simply can't use Realtek's driver.

I do appreciate your time and your willingness to assist me.

C.B.

P.S.-----I neglected to mention that Dell called me yesterday and informed me that the case is still in the escalated phase and no solution has been determined. Again, as I mentioned before, I've spent hours searching online and in various forums and cannot find one instance where anyone else is faced with this problem. The motherboard and sound card have been replaced and I've done four reinstalls (two from the recovery partition, one from a set of Dell DataSafe backup DVDs and one from the OS only installation DVD). I've done sfc /scannow on several occasions, on each reinstall, and everything is OK. I don't believe it's a hardware problem, and I don't see how the factory imaged hard drive and OS installation DVD can be faulty. The solution is beyond my limited knowledge. Considering all the hardware problems I've had with this laptop one would think that Dell would offer to replace the laptop but that's just a pie in the sky wish on my part, although it would probably take care of my problem since nobody else seems to be experiencing it.

Well, a Dell technical support agent spent appx. ninety minutes yesterday trying to get my Dell/Realtek Audio Manager to display, to no avail. This was Dell's fourth attempt. Getting the Realtek HDA Audio Manager to install and work properly is no problem. The problem is that I have the Sound Blaster X-Fi MB HDA on my laptop and it is incorporated within the Audio Manager, probably due to customization by Dell. It is this Audio Manager that has never worked from the day I received the laptop from Dell. Again, drivers downloaded from Dell's and Realtek's websites do not solve the problem.

Any ideas, anyone?

The Soundblaster software is a "software enhancement" to the on board sound (Realtek in your case). I don't know that it is really needed.

The problem has been solved. Dell replaced the OS drive and everything is working properly. I thank everyone for your contributions and your desire to help those of us who lack the necessary knowledge.
