Cannot access DVD because of, quote, Internet security settings.

For some reason, I am suddenly unable to access files on a DVD. I have a DVD I made, which is full of last year's photos. When I put it in my laptop drive and select the option to view files, it takes ages (green bar, crawling like snail, unwillingly across the top of the window where the path is listed) but eventually I see the top level folder, which is called Photos.

Double click on the Photos folder to look inside and there's another long wait (green bar spreading across again). When the green bar finally makes it across, I get the message:

These files can't be opened.
Your internet security settings prevented one or more files from being opened.
E:\Photos.

What??? What has this got to do with internet settings. I'm not trying to access the internet. I'm just trying to look at my own photos on a DVD. The same DVD in another computer works absolutely fine.

A different DVD (also of my photos but created a couple of years back) works fine in my laptop. In other words, it's only one particular DVD and it only fails in this one computer.

Actually, while writing this I just spotted something. Looking at the top level listing I think my computer has decided that E:\Photos is a file, not a folder. Why? My ancient tower machine, running XP, makes no such mistake. Any suggestions?

can you try to see the files on the same computer but from another user account?

Thanks for the suggestion. Another user on the same computer has the same problem. The folder Photos is listed as a zero length file, which gives the security settings error if you try to open it.

The fact that I can view the DVD normally on my other box (running XP) means I can recover the files and re-create the DVD, but I would like to understand what went wrong so I could avoid it happening again.

Have you tested this since you noticed the problem?
If this is still true try creating a new user account on the laptop and test the problem DVD again.
