Sorry to post my question here. My problem is with with an old win XP laptop.
This pc is connected to the internet with a LAN cable but when trying to use IE I get error notice, and there is no fix for it.
I wanted to create an image of this computer. I managed to install the macrium reflect program and saved the image to an external drive.
When I tried to create the rescue disk, the program wanted to download the PE file but it could not access the internet.
So, now I have an image that I will not be able to restore in case the old hd will fail.
Please let me know if there is any solution? (I know - get a new laptop...)
Thank you guys.

You can create one on a different pc. If you create one using 32 bit win7 winre.wim or winpe.wim, it doesn't require much ram to run.

Windows XP is old OS. hence old tool ghost will be working well.

Ghost is free and you can get it anywhere today. ghost 2003/or Ghost 10 or lower version, size <1.4MB can be on a floppy disk. boot from the disk and run. it's easy.

Ghost latest version is ghost 11.5, about 2 MB. floppy disk cannot hold any more. But this version is more useful (even can work on Win10/11 partitions of OS and data except the boot sector, which is FAT32). So I just burn it onto old SD/CF/USB cards, size 2-4MB is enough. (today USB drive can be 500GB. a waste for ghost copy).

ghost is clean (no need to install. so your OS is intact). compact and efficient.

Today's backup software, most request install before use, which leaves a backdoor on your OS (as you said, it requests internet). and huge size (need a 650MB CD or even DVD, USB 4GB to 32GB. . .).

Ghost is free and you can get it anywhere today.
Citation needed. AFAIK, Ghost has never been free. The fact you can widely download it from the internet doesn't mean you get a license to use it for free.

In contrast, Macrium Reflect does have a legitimate free tier. And as SIW2 said, it's a simple matter to create Rescue media (CD or USB stick) on another PC.

Ghost is a product of Norton company, which bought-off by Symantec, later by Broadcom. product Ghost has been discontinued.

Broadloom offers it free,

It can be easily searched online. just do Google search.

I googly-moogly'd it...and here is what "free" means...it means licensed shareware:
Shareware is demonstration software that you use for a specific evaluation period (usually 30 days) without paying a fee. After the evaluation period expires, the shareware provider may require you to purchase a license for the software or to quit using it.

Thank you for your help.
My other computer is win 10, 64 bits. I have a rescue disk done on this computer. Will it start the restore process on the old XP laptop? How do I create another rescue disc for a 32 bit OS?

I need a macrium rescue disk for my old XP (32 bit) laptop. I could not create it on that laptop because the internet connection did not work.
I have a rescue disk done for my Windows 10 PC (64 bit).
So, will this rescue dist be able to start the restore process if the xp laptop HD dies?
Any suggestion?

Does the XP laptop have a 64 bit processor, even if it only has a 32 bit OS installed? If so the 64 bit Macrium rescue disk will be fine. There's no requirement that the Macrium recovery media has to be the same bits as the OS in the image you are restoring. 32 bit can restore a 64 bit OS image, and vice versa.

By the way, did you realise that you can also boot from the Macrium rescue disk and make a system image. It's got a full version of Reflect on it, it's not just for doing a restore.
