Cannot create USB bootable drive for Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

Hello all,

I have tried several times to create a USB boot in order to re-install the Windows from several links including from here:

Windows 7 Home Premium Download

But even using Windows 7 USB tool & rufus v1.4.3 the boot drive is not being created.

I have tried using 2 different USB drives but still the disks are empty.

Any advise ? Maybe a different link for an ISO file ?

Thanks.

Are you using a USB hard drive or flash (thumb) drive?

Everything needed is here to get and keep a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

Be sure to read the Special Note for HP Owners at the end because HP offers a minimal recovery that is nearly as good as the Clean reinstall but provides all the drivers and reactivation.

At the moment it seems that the ISO is corrupted or something like at.
When I extract the ISO content and run the setup.exe file I get an error:
"not valid win32 application", mind you that I am trying to install a 64bit version same as I have now.

Any ideas why this might happen ?

The correct ISO

Did you download X17-59247.iso (64 bit)

or

X17-59246.iso (32 Bit)

The 64 bit ISO is the one for 64 bit machines.

Other than that I've always used UNetbootin, Universal Netboot Installer - Browse /UNetbootin/494 at SourceForge.net

unetbootin-windows-494.exe

to create Windows 7 installer USB's as a lot of other bootable USB creators have had the functionality to create Windows installers removed at the request of Microsoft.

It's also possible to get the error that you described if you're trying to install 64 bit Windows on a 32 bit machine.

Tried rufus does not help.

I have downloaded X17-58997.iso several times but I always get this error.
Tried X17-59246.iso as well and when I open the ISO with deamon tools it contains a single text file that says:
"This disc contains a "UDF" file system and requires an operating system
that supports the ISO-13346 "UDF" file system specification."

I think something is very wrong with my machine / OS as when I request it to go to sleep it shutdown.

Will do.

I used daemon tools to mount the ISO and view it's content.

Daemon Tools is not compatible with Win7 and can cause problems. You can mount a .vhd in Disk Mgmt: Virtual Hard Disk - Create and Attach VHD

I gave you the steps that include everything you need including a new official installer ISO and the tools MS provides to burn to DVD or stick: Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

If you stick with the tools and methods in the tutorial then you will get and keep a perfect install for as long as you do, since it compiles what has worked best in tens of thousands of installs we've helped with here.

I do follow the instructions.

But after I create a boot USB using "Windows 7 USB-DVD Download Tool" I try and check that all is well, open the content of the USB and the entire size is about 90 MB.

This I cannot understand.

Did you download a new iso and check the size ?

Did you try to put that iso on the usb drive with one of the 2 programs I linked for you ?

They work perfectly :)

Just at thought.
Are you trying to download to the USB flash drive or disk or are you downloading to your desktop and then saving/copy/burn it on a USB flash drive or disk?

You are not doing it right, 1st you download the iso, then you put the iso on the flash drive using 1 of the programs we have given you links to.

You DO NOT just COPY the iso files to the flash drive.
