Hi ccatlett1984,
Just to let you know I tried to do the chsnge in the host file, but was not sure how to make the change, since when you do it it usually takes the form of

192.168.2.5 www.mywebsite.com

but with a computer would it be

192.168.2.5 \\mycomputername

I have offered that in the past and some people get a bit weird about that. You need to make a phone call, or IM, or some way to exchange passwords. Unless they are familiar with TeamViewer and they set things up a head of time and email you the password. Still people are uncomfortable with having someone else they don't know mess with their computer. -WS

I did it to some guys computer. He almost bowed down to me if he wasn't Umph thousand miles away from me for fixing his computer. *lol*

yeah I know people get weirded out by it but if people can't fix it, they go to the extream by formatting their hard drive and restart over and if the problem persist, nothing is ever fixed. One big loop hole.

Even with teamviewer you can just have desktop access, see what he sees and tell him where to go in text, that is usually what I do cause Yeah.. they have issues with the full control

Maybe the OP will take you up on using TeamViewer to help???

Hi People,
I have finally worked out why I could not connect this PC with the network

In the Belkin Router I had settup two kinds of access to the internet, those that are part of the home wireless network and those that are guest, but the guest can only access the internet, but not the internal wireless network in my home.

Each one has its own password. When I unchecked the hide password for my wireless access, below and behold it actually had the guest password.

That is why Wireshark only showed public IP addressess.

For those who need a step by step:

so if you go to

Start
Control Panel
Under Network and Internet is

view network status and tasks
click on this
then to the left you will find

Manage Wireless networks

select the wireless network in question and then right click and select properties

select security tab

check show characters

This will tell you what the password is and match that up with your password on the router.

Regards

Many Thanks to all, and it would have been faster if someone connected to my PC and suss'ed it out. LOL

If only we could access the Op's router page from here it would make it so much easier to spot these types of problems. As usual though this really wasn't a Windows 7 problem at all, and as everyone can see, networking between XP and Windows 7 still works perfectly all things being equal.
