I will try to explain this in a clear way:

I am a current student who has a Desktop and a Laptop. My Desktop was a fully functioning 7 Home Prem install using an upgrade from Windows XP. Windows xp was already on this used Desktop (custom build) with no CD Key or Media available to me. Windows 7 upgrade was valid and paid for by me.

I recently began school again and setup my Mac Laptop with Bootcamp, did a Fresh install with the original Win 7 academic HP. Yes, this is a upgrade only version.

I purchased Windows Professional and applied the FULL product key to Windows Anytime Upgrade to my DESKTOP. This upgraded the 7 Home Premium to Pro and took over the "Upgrade Home Prem spot" and freed up my license.

I hadn't used my Laptop in a while (With the fresh HPrem install on it) and it expired. When I went to use my Laptop, it had expired. Foolishly, I tried to use my friends full key because I didn't know how to get the fresh install fixed on the Laptop and I thought "Well, I did pay for this product, lets jut get it working" After I updated the key to a new key, it will not let me change the 7 key BACK to the original paid for Home Premium.

Let me be clear here. All of my products are paid for, I just want to get the Home Premium key back on my Laptop so I can call Microsoft and explain the situation and maybe they will allow me to activate Win7.

Here are 2 scenarios I can think of:
---1. UNupgrade my Desktop with a System Restore back down to Home Premium 7 and then use the Windows Professional full install key on my Laptop
---2. Somehow restore the 7 Home Premium key to my Laptop and then Call Microsoft to explain the situation. I own 2 copies of Win 7.

If you are wondering why I didn't use Pro on my Laptop, it is because Pro allows more RAM and my Desktop is a Gaming machine. My Laptop has a Max RAM of 16gb anyway.

No worries. I will check that out! It may be helpful if I decide to go the route of downgrading after the fact. Either that, or it will help me set the version so low I can use the disc to "Upgrade" to 7 Home Premium. Currently, I chose to upgrade the Laptop to Professional. So now I have 30 days to activate Professional. I am considering my options at this point.
