Cannot find Bitlocker in my Windows 7

Hi,

I'm trying to put a password in an external hard disk and I need to use Bitlocker which is supposedly included in Windows 7. I don't have and I don't know if I can get it from somewhere. Or any other alternative to password the external disk?

It's only included in the most expensive version of Windows, the Ultimate edition. All lesser editions don't include it, not even as an optional feature to be enabled.

If you happen to have one of those, a good replacement for full-disk encryption would be the vastly superior TrueCrypt.

Ok. Thanks for the info. I don't have the Ultimate edition unfortunately so I guess I am left with no options for putting a password to the external disc. What a shame!

Not built-in, but external disk-encryption utilities still do their job.
That's why I've previously recommended truecrypt for this, which by the way is a much better option than Bitlocker.

Just install it and encrypt your disk with it. A different operation than Bitlocker, but the same overall goal.
