Hello, I have read the threads, and have tried all the recommendations.
I have tried different cables, cameras, and computers, and only on this computer when I set up the hub to read "legacy" do I get an id DV cam. I was told by Sony tech to try play memories home or win movie maker. None work, I have reseated the card Syba 1394 a and b (2 ports each), and cannot get either program to work. I have sent the card back and they will swap. I have followed all the steps, turn on the camera, set it to vtr, and wait for the pop up prompts. I do hear the ding, and it is listed under "imaging devices". So, maybe the card is the only variable. Right?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Setting the firewire to "legacy" is the way many firewire devices will work.
I'm not familiar with your Sony, but work with firewire devices for audio recording. Practically all of them require a T.I. chip interface in the PC to work properly.

When you connect the Sony, go to the Device Manager and display the Sony camera. It will either show and error code or that it is working OK.

Thanks, Fireberd,
What is a "ti chip"? Or could you just give me the full word and not the abbreviation. I think you might have hit it on the head, is that the motherboard, may not have a ti chip, or not support 1394 cards, even though, it does register cleanly in the device manager as a 1394 root hub. I will check with them today and find out. Otherwise, I need a different card. Or worse case scenario, I will purchase a sony DVD recorder that I can hook up right to the camera and burn DVD's. Quite a waste of time, and money. Appreciate the input

TI - Texas Instruments. The "TI" firewire port chips are required by many firewire devices to work or work properly. Whether that is your problem or not???

As far as using the PC to create DVD's. I dumped that a long time ago, as a waste of PC time. I had a lot of VCR tapes I wanted to convert to DVD. I bought a standalone DVD burner. Much faster and easier than doing it with a PC. Getting the proper format and finalizing the DVD's on a PC is tricky, easier and sure on a standalone.

Thanks Fireberd,
Yes it does have a TI chip, but I got some more info from Gigabyte support. They said to take out all the cards in that group, put the firewire card back, and see if it works, as there may be conflict between cards. So I will try that after I get my new card back. I will keep you posted. And thanks for the speedy replies.
Regards,
Millard
