Hello, I have tried unsuccessfully to install IE10 on my Windows 7 64 bit system.

First, I wanted to say that yes, I am planning on following the posting instructions (system update readiness tool, and SFC scan posts), but first, I wanted to introduce the problem that I am having.

I was directed here after a search by this post: IE10 Installation Fails - Win 7 Pro 64-bit SP1 - Microsoft Community

I have submitted my own question to Answers.microsoft.com and simply linking that will show you what I have already done rather than typing it all out. Here it is: IE 10 will not install on Windows 7 64 bit Professional with SP1 - Microsoft Community

In this link you can see my error codes and whatnot. If you want me to post it all here, let me know.

So, here I am. I will run the System Update readiness tool tonight when I leave (I am at work). But in the meantime, if there is anything else you want from me, please let me know.

Thank you,
Dan

OK, I have installed the SURT, and tried the installation again. Same problems as before.

I then ran the SFC Scannow with no issues. Tried the installation again.....same problem.

So, I am attaching the error codes that I have encountered and I am also attaching the CBS.zip file (be aware, the entire CBS Folder exceeded the 8.3 MB size limit, so I broke it up into two attachments, (CBS.zip and CBS_CAB.zip). The CBS.zip file contains the ".log" files, while the CBS_CAB.zip contains the ".cab" files.

So, there you go.

It never ceases to amaze me that people seem to think that the 643 error is specific to .NET - far from it (although .NET is one of the major causes for such errors).
I have never yet seen a satisfactory explanation of what the error actually means, but I suspect that it's a compounded error, which involves registry corruption. Where it occurs in .NET, it's often cured by uninstalling and reinstalling .NET - which is not going to do anything for you in your situation.
Both CheckSUR and CBS log are effectively error-free - which makes life very difficult, in terms of finding the cause (common, with 643 errors).
I have read that some had success by uninstalling IE9, then reinstalling it, and then installing IE10 - it's certainly worth a try.

What Anti-Virus are you using currently? - what AV's have EVER been installed on this machine?

The AntiVirus that is installed is the ESET endpoint antivirus. As far as I know it is the only one that has ever been installed on this machine.

Unfortunately, I do not control what antivirus goes on this machine, since this is my work PC.

ESET isn't known for causing problems.
Your best bet is possibly to try the un install/reinstall of IE9

OK, so I uninstalled IE9, rebooted and ran windows update.

There were three updates available:
A security update for IE8
IE9 installation
IE10 installation.

So, I installed the Security update for IE8 first, rebooted and then installed IE9........or I thought I was going to.
I got an error when I tried to install IE9!!

See the screenshots for the error.

Update!

I tried again, and for some reason the IE9 install worked.
Rebooted and ran windows update and only IE10 was there. Cross your fingers!

Check your time and sync. Tryv the fix it tool. Is there any reason you have/want IE over another browser?
