Cannot install LG monitor driver

Hello. I have an LG Flatron W2243S. I have located the relevant driver on the LG website, downloaded the zip file and extracted it. I now have a driver file called W2243_for_Windows7

My problem is that I don't know how to install this file. There are no executables contained in the extracted file.

When I go through Control Panel I find that the monitor driver update button is greyed out, so instead I have run device manager (Run > devmgmt.msc > Monitor), right-clicked on 'Generic non-PnP monitor' and selected update from there. I then browsed to the location of the driver file and selected the folder but it did not install the LG driver. Instead I got a message saying the Generic driver was up to date.

I have looked inside the W2243_for_Windows7 folder but don't know how to install the files. I don't recognise the file types.

Can anyone tell me how?

Thank you

Edit: the file types are .cat .inf and .icm

The usual way to load a driver manually is to open Control Panel and go to Device Manager. Find the device in the drop down list in this case Monitor and like you said you have the default Plug and Play monitor. Right Click the Plug and Play Monitor and select Up Date Driver Software. A Window will open with 2 options. Choose the lower one Browse My Computer for Driver Software. Another window will open and ignore the top option and select Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer.Yet another window will open (Remember this is why they call it windows). Select Have Disk and browse to the folder the drivers are in. You should find an inf file that will then load and install the drivers for you and set everything the way it should be. This works for anything eg. mice, keyboards, sata cards etc.

You should find an ini file that will then load and install the drivers
I think Indianatone has a typo. Should be .inf file. When you select update driver in device manager, point Windows to the folder with the .inf file

fyi... That installs the color profile for your monitor. I expect device manager to continue to show your monitor uses the Microsoft driver even after the install and might still be called a Generic PnP monitor

Thanks, guys. Very helpful (and understandable)! I have successfully updated the driver and now have the correct resolution. Why couldn't LG provide similar instructions?

Thanks

It costs money to provide that kind of support. I have LG monitors myself so have had to go through exactly the same set up. Stick around Seven Forums have numerous tutorials on stuff to tweak and supercharge your PC.
