Cannot install software due to corrupt install files

Trust me man, OEM support is useless, what they said is a rly stupid fix. Even a full version later, Windows Installer 4.5, was released 3 years ago. Stupid ppl...

I am pretty sure its doing something wrong. Would you like to try Wiping the Hard Drive clean and then, again, installing Windows from the CD?

Did you download the right .iso?

We don't have much say on what he downloads, as it is breaking the rules of this forum to post a link to the right iso for Windows 7.

The right one will make all the difference. It could have been corrupted when it was uploaded or maybe the OP corrupted it while downloading.

Yes, I know that, but we cannot tell him what to download exactly.

Hi guys,

i'm having the same issue with installers not working after download for a fresh install of Windows 7

installers i've had issues with (all downloaded from manufacturer's website);

  • Kapersky 2011 internet security
  • Adobe Reader X
  • Rhino V4 Service Release 9
  • Rino V5 WIP
  • Itunes
I was able to install Adobe Reader X after reading this post Adobe Forums: Error 13042 while trying to install

But have not had any luck with any of the others yet

Have applied all available updates from Microsoft but still no go. I also suspect its my Win7 build that is to blame and thinking I need to wipe this install and try again with a different iso.

Any suggestions?

@Gabzi Try downloading with another computer/browser, and put it on your computer through USB, see if that helps.

I have managed to reinstall Windows. A new clean version. I reinstalled the drivers. Still have the issue with corrupt installation files.

It's strange though as some installers seem to rum fine. So far on this machine I have successfully installed 7-Zip, Virtual CloneDrive and Memtest86. I cannot install Firefox, Chrome and AVG.

I'm one step away from sending the machine back under warranty as I'm guessing if a fresh install hasn't solved it then it must be hardware failing...

Can any of the drivers I have installed cause this?

Two things.

1. Send me a PM of the link of where you got the Windows 7 .iso.

2. Did you get the drivers from your computer manufacturers website?

Yes drivers came from OEM Recovery disc that I made up before doing the install. I would have liked to download and install from the manufacturers but I would have no idea which drivers to install myself...

Sorry, also should have mentioned that I did download a new version of my graphics and network (wireless) drivers on another PC and burned the files to CD but I could not get Windows to recognise them as drivers when I tried to update.

Also the drivers that were packed into installers were showing as corrupt even though I had downloaded/burned them from another PC.

I tried installing a Firefox installer that was downloaded from the other PC and burned on the CD as well and it also came up as corrupt at the extraction stage.

That, to me anyway, suggests that the problem definitely lies with something other than firewall/internet/HDD as these installers were from a different source and booted from a CD Dive...

I'd just return the laptop. Something is broken somewhere.

OK I'll redo the Windows install and avoid OEM stuff altogether. Would you recommend deleting partitions and reformatting?

Yes, I recommend you to completely remove everything off the computer one more time. You can use an Ubuntu Live CD and GParted to format everything off the disk, format it as NTFS by the way. Then, install Windows from fresh again. Update it completely in Windows Update. After Windows is installed, DO NOT INSTALL ANY CUSTOM DRIVERS. Go on the internet, and try installing things, such as Chrome, Adobe Reader, MSE, ect. Tell me if the installers work or not.

Slasher thanks a lot. I finally have a working system.

I performed a new install. This time I deleted OEM partitions and formatted the drive. When I finally got Windows up and running I installed the network adapter driver from the manufacturer. I then updated Windows 7 through the Windows Updates which installed the chipsets and graphics drivers for me.

eMachines have wasted a lot of my time with their "recovery" system.

Thanks for all your advice.

Graphics from Windows Update? Well, as long as its working. I'd check Intel's site for the next driver update.

Ur welcome man, anytime. Windows Update generally does a good job updating Intel graphics drivers, but you should check Intel's website for the graphics drivers anyways. If you see any new problems appear or something unusual, just give me a PM or post on this thread. I'll be waiting. Please Rep me to show your appreciation :D. You should keep the Ubuntu Live CD, as it is extremely useful for solving Windows boot problems, ect.

It is the memory. I just went through this horrible process. Remove one of your memory sticks and magic...it works.
