Cannot open Network Files, permission error

Hi everybody,

Currently, I am trying to open a picture in a network drive using windows photo viewer, I get Windows Photo Viewer can't open this picture because you don't have the correct permissions to access the file location. I tried opening, word, xls any file from the network directory, and all I got was permission error.

Next, on the same computer, I opened my virtual machine and login as the same user, all files opened fine.

Next, on a different computer, signing in the same username, everything works fine as well.

On the network drive, I have my username in the group with full control. So, I'm not sure if it is the network or my computer permission problem.

I found out that when I did a security check on the c:\windows folder, Administrator username does not have any permission at all. Is that normal?

Users (dell\Users) have read & execute, list folder contents, and read permission checked.

Anybody any ideas?

Jacee,

Thanks. But I just found out that my other computer administrator group does not have fullcontrol on c:\windows folder as well. So, that ruled out the problem why I do not have correct permissions to access the network files.

At one point, I remember I was meddling with Owner, and permissions and while it was applying, i accidentally cancelled the process. From then onwards, I was missing permission to access network files only from this computer. But if i were to run a VM on this same computer, I was able to view all files.

Any ideas?
