For instance if I open itunes then I open youtube, or any other program with audio, the program opened second will not make sound. I'm using a asus p6t mobo with on board sound running windows 7 64 and running realtek 6.0.1.5969 sound driver. Any way to fix this?

That sounds like "normal" operation. If one program has the sound card "captured" for it's use then another can't use it. Has it ever worked where itunes and youtube both had sound at the same time?

I'm not talking about both at the same time. I mean if itunes is open but not playing anything, youtube or anything else wont make any noise. I should be able to have itunes open but not playing and still have another program making noise, right? My old pc did it, and i believe every other pc i've used did not do this.

Oh. I just tried it on my PC and I was able to have iTunes opened and played a wave file on my PC with WMP12. But, I don't have an answer as I have a different sound card ( a SoundBlaster) and it may be there is an issue with the Win 7 drivers for Realtek. Do you have the System Mixer function and is it checked?
