Hello No matter how hard i try i cannot get disk check to run either from cmd or disk properties in win7 home premium. The laptop reboots and counts down to 1 and stalls.Cant even skip because keyboard appears unresponsive during countdown.Have installed an alleged hotfix from microsoft to no avail. Can run chkdsk in read only mode but as soon as you add any parameters it stalls at reboot.Any help gratefully recieved.

try doing system repair or type in your cmd "sfc/scannow" without the quote. It would be better if you could boot in safemode

just wondering if you put /f in your command

chkdsk (drive letter): /f

Have tried a full system reboot to factory settings as laptop is only 2 months old.chkdsk still never worked.Have tried in safe mode and from the repair tool on boot up no joy.Have tried with the /f parameter and others but the only way it will run is in read only mode which is no good for any repairs.Have run sfc scanner no problems.Have checked the registry entries and all appear ok and have rebooted using only system processes still no joy.I believe im not the only person with this issue and its a win7 problem but some one must have worked it out by now. Will be waiting till the end of days for microsoft to get a workable fix.
thankyou

alright here it goes

Click on Start then Run , type cmd and press Enter . Next type fsutil dirty query x: where x: is your boot drive. This queries the drive, and more than likely it will tell you that it is dirty.
Next, type chkntfs /x c: . The X tells Windows to NOT check that particular drive on the next reboot. Now manually reboot your computer, it should not do a chkdsk and should take you directly to normal Windows login.
Once Windows has fully loaded, bring up another Command Prompt and enter chkdsk c: /r . Reply Y when asked if you want this to happen on the next boot. This should take you through 5 stages of the chkdsk scan and will unset that dirty bit. This can take an hour or more depending on the size of your hard drive, be patient and let it complete.
Once booted back to Windows, open another Command Prompt and query the dirty bit again by entering fsutil dirty query c: and Windows will confirm that the dirty bit is not set on that drive.

Hello
Checked thread doesnt seem to be the same.Have run full virus scan with mcafee tot protec and malwarebytes this morn no results found.Ran system health reports and performance scans and cannot come up with anything. There doesnt seem to be a problem with the disk but thats not to say there wont be in the future.Im baffled. Its a new system shouldnt be like this.Do you know what entries should be in the registry for chkdsk on reboot because thats all i can come up with is there a program that could check these. Also is it possible a start up program could be jumping in on start up and using the disk before chkdsk can thus stopping tha process because the disk is in use.
Thankyou for all your help

Ok still no joy tried no run chkdsk from recovery options but said cannot lock current drive and this disk is write protected.on checking up there is only one drive split into 4 partitions recovery, oem, system reserved and the main acer c: partition.Am i right in thinking there is no way chkdsk can run because the disk will always be in use.Apparently this is the way acer format there shop bought pre os installed pcs.
