Hi Everyone,

I can receive my email on outlook2007, but I can not reply nor send email through outlook; I receive the following error message: ,<< Outlook cannot connect to your outgoing (SMTP) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).>> . Everything else works fine on these other networks, but I have to go to my server websites that I am pulling my email from to be able to send or reply to them. Any idea what I have wrong please?

Windows 7 COMPAQ HP 64 bit and OUtlook 2007.
Thanks
Michael

First thing I would check is in the advanced account settings check the SMTP server TAB and that the "my server requires me to log on) is set and the "use same settings as my mail server" is on.

Also check the port settings, if set for SSL or TLS try without or auto and vice versa

Not sure if the actual options I've given are correct wording but you should be able to see the ones I mean ;)

It may take a few tries to get things sorted but it should be one of the above

1) In addition to checking your account settings, as Nigel advised, please remember that many ISPs block the default SMTP port (25) to prevent spamming. Some providers give you the option to use a secondary port to send through them (like 26 or 587) while others do not. An easy way to see if this is the problem is to telnet to the hostname on port 25 and see if it responds, to do this type the following in a DOS prompt:

telnet mail.domain.com 25

If the port is open and mail can be accepted you will see:

220 mail.test.com ESMTP

If the port is not accessible you will see this:

Connecting To mail.test.com...Could not open connection to the host, on port 25: Connect failed

If 25 is indeed being blocked, you'll need to use another port, you may need to check with your isp.

2) I had a similar issue, resolved it by using my gmail account and gmail ports for outgoing mail.

Outlook problem with new, replies, forwarding etc...

When I try to reply, create a new email, or forward an email in Outlook 2007 on this new laptop I can see that the program has opened a reply etc... but this window is only visible in the task bar and does not open when clicked on. I'm using an extended display from the laptop using its external VGA monitor plug to a Dell monitor. I receive emails fine.

No other programs are having a similar problem (ie. all windows that are visible in the task bar open when clicked on).

I am beyond confused and mostly illiterate when it comes to computers. Any help is appreciated.
