My computer has slowed right down lately and I tracked the problem to the pagefile which has suddenly disappeared. When I try to set it back to system managed and click the 'set' button, there is a popup in the system tray that says "SystemPropertiesPerformance.exe - corrupt file". Any ideas?

If you have the win 7 dvd you could pull a fresh copy and i put it where the corrupt one is.

Thanks for the replies.

SFC /scannow finds no problems.
I replaced the files in system32 with the ones on the DVD but I still get the same corrupt file message.

Every time I start my computer it tries to do a check disk (or scan disk?) but it never can as the error message "Cannot open volume for direct access" always comes up. I'm guessing this has something to do with the problem? I'm looking myself now but thought I would post this up in case someone is familiar with this.

Here's a link to a possible solution. One cause is a driver loading and preventing Windows from locking the disk.

I am unable to run CHKDSK, it cannot lock or open volume for direct access.

Hope this helps. Let us know.
