Using Outlook 2010 on a new Windows 7 PC. Outlook started a few times and then the error message "Cannot start Microsoft Outlook" came up. I have read previous threads on this topic and tried the solutions offered there. The regedit solution from Capt. Jack solved the problem.... but only temporarily. After running an update for WordPerfect, the error message "Cannot start Microsoft Outlook" returned. Please advise if there is anything else I can do to prevent future errors. Many thanks.

Just a few random thoughts...

* Have you applied the appropriate updates to Outlook?

* If you right click the Outlook Icon > Run as Administrator...

Does Outlook now open / work as expected?

* If the problem doesn't appear when you're running in Safe Mode could it be a misbehaving add-in that's causing grief?

Navigate to Add-ins and see if there's anything there you can disable.

{ If you have an iTunes add-in disable it. It's really only useful if you're synchronizing Outlook to your iPhone or iPod.}

*

Is Outlook up-to-date?
Did Outlook ever work?
Does Outlook still work for other users on the computer?
Safe Mode
Disable add-ins
Use scanpst.exe to fix Outlook Data File errors
Recreate your mail profile
Run a Repair, Office Diagnostics or reinstall Office/Outlook

Happy to report that the regedit trick worked again. So far so good. I did verify all updates. Hope the problem doesn't happen again.
