Cannot unpin from taskbar!?

I've been trying to get windows 7 all running, and have been having problems all day... first my initial plan was to make a dual boot so I could have my vista too, but when I made another partition, the vista wouldn't boot, nor would it reinstall, nor would 7 install... eventually I just formatted, and installed 7. Took a while to get network and sound up, transferring drivers via usb and so on. Then I couldn't copy my backups back onto my hard drive because my external hard drive wouldnt be recognized with my usb stick inserted, for some odd reason.

Now I've got everything pretty much going... except for one small, but extremely irritating problem.

Installing the program steam, (uses a .msi to install), the icon appears in the taskbar for the setup. When I finish installing to Program Files, however, it does not dissappear. I didn't notice that at the time, thought it was just an automatic shortcut to launch steam, but I then decided that I wanted all my games in C:/Games instead of C:/Program Files, so I move the whole directory over to Games, then run it.

I'm greeted by it trying to install itself again, so ok, I let it install to Games.
I then delete the program files installation again. Now its left ANOTHER icon in the task bar, and although steam works fine, I cannot unpin the icons.

When I right click them, no menu pops up, nothing.
When I right click anything else I see and can use the option "Unpin"
When I click on one of the icons it starts installing steam to program files. (which I then have to delete again)

I'm using Orbit's 7057 build of Windows 7,
does anyone know how to force unpin or see a more flexible way of pinning/unpinning or whatever?

Help much appreciated,

Nevermind, fixed it by finding the folder:
C:\Users\<user name>\Appdata\roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar

and deleting the 2 steam shortcuts.

Funny that it should be in Internet Explorer?

Solved for me also

For whatever reason, the Safari browser icon that I pinned to the task bar lost its information. When I rolled over the 'now-generic-unknown-type' icon, a window would give me the name (Safari), but when I clicked on the icon... a pop-up informed me that this was only for "installed" items. I could not remove the icon from the task bar - until I found the message above and removed the icon from the folder. Thanks

Thanks a ton! I would have never found that on my own.
