Anyone knows what Canon is gonna do about the fact they don't have 64-bit drivers for this printer? Anyone some information on this?

I know there are no Vista (64-bit) drivers either. This is the only piece of hardware which is not functional with Windows 7 RC (64-bit).

This is a great printer, so I will stick to XP if no solution is given by Canon. But maybe someone has some official info from Canon regarding this issue :).

I can only hope ...

I searched the Cannon site and your right they only offer a Vista 32 bit driver. My question is have you tried to download this driver to your desktop and find the setup. exe file, then right click it then properties. Then check the run in comapatability mode> Vista. Then try and install it? This is the only option you have avalible, short of running VM. Fabe LBP5000

FINALLY got a reply from Canon.....(email from 19/10/09... 3 days from Windows 7 full commercial release)......

Thank you for your enquiry.

As Windows 7 is not yet in full commercial release, Canon Australia is currently unable to provide full support for users of this operating system. Information provided by Microsoft indicates that products that are compatible with Windows Vista (64-bit) are likely to also work under the current Windows 7 Release Candidate using the same drivers, however Canon Australia is unable to confirm this at this time.

As the LBP5200 is not compatible with any current 64-bit Windows operating system, it is unlikely that it will be compatible with the 64-bit version of Windows 7.

.....thanks Canon - in other words - stiff cookies, buy another printer!
*LOOK - SHINY - a NEW Canon* - yeah! right!
So long Canon and thanks for all the fish!

Using XP Mode to print works. But is not a really nice solution. Canon released a list of hardware that will be supported by Windows 7 and this printer is not part of it.

Lets hope for the best then and hopefully this is for real. Currently I'm printing using XP mode in Windows 7 64-bit but I want to get a real solution allowing me to print from any PC in the house over the printer router.

What language is that annyway? Or is that a name? :).

We just have to wait

Droiz:

I phoned Canon’s Customer Service this morning for your information and the female correspondent replied: ’TUKURU YOTEI DE ORIMASUGA, MADA GUTAITEKI HIZUKE MADEWA KIMATTE ORIMASEN. (I assure you the driver for 64-bit LBP 5000 driver will be built but I the date of release is not yet confirmed) They are working on it. Canon has already released many 64-bit driver versions of its various hardwares and I am wondering what idiosyncrasies of LBP 5000 system are impeding a swift solution. I am using the portable inkjet printer Canon PIXUS 50i in the meantime, but only for small notes and not large-scaled documents. I guess we have to wait till the swallow-nesting heralds the advent of spring. thanks;)

Good News. Canon finally admitted the driver for LBP5000 will be released in April, which logically implies from the 1st of April to the 28th of April. I perceive continuous hard work on Canon’s side and, still vague it may be, they earned the confidence to set up the exact month of release. However, ‘It’s still a long, long way to Tipperary’ and a couple of months of patience seems inevitable. I am delighted with WINDOWS 7 quicksilver response and am mightily satisfied with Microsoft’s new system architecture. With my buddy LBP5000 printer in soon practice, I am anticipating more efficiency and smoother maneuvering of my online jobs: handwriting, typing and DTP(DeskTop Publishing) printing.

Dear mediachild,
it came as a shock. The windows 7 64-bit canon
lbp5000 driver is already available on the japanese-
written website. So they actually told the truth but
no solution to overseas customers. I phoned
the customer support of canon this afternoon
and she said, 'this is a matter to be
considered by the management.
I will report your comments and
mr. Mediachild's anger to my upper
men in charge.'
it is a downright ridiculous story
with an aaa company like canon,
but sometimes strange things like this do happen...
I was reading a blog by george colony of
forrester research, and he warned
the imminence of cgm(consumer-
generated media). 'it's customer,
customer, customer that matters
(in the manner of jack welch)' he said.
And it is coming true throughout
the advanced nations.
Toyota's arrogance cost billions of
dollars and i just can hope canon
will return to its senses
or else follow the tragedy of toyota.
It seems canon usa website is the
only place to keep watch for some months.
Very sorry. I was of little help

Actually, they have LBP5000 drivers for English Windows7 64 bit, but the page is Japanese :P
Here is the link:
Canon Driver Page Here
At the bottom of the page, there are 3 links beginning with HTTP... First one is the installer, probably this one is what you need. Second one is the .inf file in case you want to install the driver manually.

Still no 5200 drivers though. Unbelievable! All the products in the LBP5XXX line has 64bit drivers except 5200... Ridiculous! I wrote them a very bitter email, hopefully they will come up with a solution.

It's actually the 5200 that I'm looking for too. I'd hoped they'd come out at the same time but this is obviously not the case.

I called and spoke to a Canon technician here in Australia. He said there were no 64 bit drivers in that range and no plans that he knew of... quite ironic considering that at the time of course there were, just in Japanese.

At least now I know not to bother asking Canon again. That's about the fourth time in a row they've been completely wrong in their advice.

I think maybe I'll wait for another few weeks and if nothing gets done just try to sell it on ebay.

Anyone in Sydney, Australia want a second hand LBP5200 in almost new condition with a full set of unopened cartridges going for a good price? Works perfectly (except on a 64 bit system). :(

Dear Mediachild,

I phoned Canon’s customer service and the female correspondent replied, ‘LBP5200 was released 9 months before LBP5000 and we have made all contrivances to make it comfortable use with 32-bit XPs and Vistas. I could say it was custom-tailored to XP and Vista. But the version is old and there are shaky configurations and we have decided to drop this particular machine for sake of cultivating broader (Windows 7) markets. I beg your understanding of our policy.’

In other words, most possibly, the market demand for old LBP5200 sank record low and the executives chose ‘business practice’ over ‘customer support.’ Canon is still heading in the wrong way and further consequences may follow. Bur business is business, and it was Canon’s decision and Canon’s compromise to retain LBP5200 usage to half-speed 32-bit drivers.

Again, I was of no help but I hope the situation clarified a bit.

Feeble Tottering Thanks, Kunihiko:sick:

Partially good news here.
I was able to install 32bit LBP5200 drivers to my Windows 7 64 bit system. Using my LBP5200 without a problem now.
How? By installing the XP Mode (Download Windows XP Mode)
Unfortunately, XP Mode is available only in Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate editions.

What do you meen by without a problem now?

How are you printing via XP mode? We installed it but could not get Win7x64 to print via XP Mode. Are you just sending the file to the VM then printing?

Is there a share printer option inside VM I am missing?

Any help on this would be great spent tooo much time on it already for an old noisy clunky printer lol.
