Can't activate windows 7 (Windows/system32/slui.exe)

Hi, I've been trying to use my Windows 7 key on this PC but every time I go to control panel and click to activate it gives me the error "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access them" In which I do, I'm the admin.

I'm wanting to install Windows 10 but this is standing in my way...

Yeah, I figured but wasn't sure. I bought the entire PC from someone I know who claimed the OS was legit because I asked.

How would I go about getting around this? My friend had an extra Windows 7 key that he gave me which is the one I'm trying to use.

The key he "gave" you, is as i said purely for FACTORY built computers, and will NEVER pass activation legitamately,
only thing you can do is buy one, from a reputable source, many W7 keys advertised are not legitimate.

This is a different key, not the one that came with the PC (PC was already built, had everything installed). I bought the PC from a completely different person than the person who gave me a key.

I put the key in on the Microsoft website as if I was going to download the Windows 7 ISO from their site, and the key went through. So, it's legit, right?
