Solved cant boot - always get to 0x50 BSOD

how do i find that info? and how to access the Dell Diagnostic Tool? if i press F2 on startup i get the Setings listing where i cant see any of the qw's you ask.

I am not surprised about the voltages. Usually in BIOS there is a hardware, monitoring or some similar wording that gives that info. But Dell locks down their BIOS so tight they don't give you the ability to see it. The hard drive should be listed in Device manager. Click the start button, type device manager in the search box and click on device manager. Once there look for Disk Drives and click the small arrow to the left of the name, there should be a listing for each hard drive you have by manufacturer and model. You can find a lot of info by clicking start>all programs>Accessories>System tools>system info. You may not have that option in Bios for the voltages. So, you may not be able to answer that question. As far as the Dell Diagnostics, you may not have that. For a try, when the Dell logo appears try F11(may be F12). It should give you all bootable devices. One of them should be Dell Diagnostics. If that does not work, read your manual to find out how to access it.

ok when i press F2 i can see the boot sequrne, the options i have are: Diskette Drive; Internal HDD; USB Storage Device; CD/DVD/CD-RW Drive; Modular Bay HDD; eSATA HDD; eSATA Dock HDD; Cardbus NIC; Onboard NIC. As i cant get into Windows i cant get anything like theStart kry to do anything or install Speccy - i am also without a manual

somehow i seem to have progressed - a little - it has now half started and i am looking at System Recovery Options. These are: Startup Repair (tried but no joy), System Restore (again no joy), System Image Recovery, Windows Memory Diagnostic, Command Prompt. Any good? Im scared to mess in the dark - this is the furthest Ive got and dont want to mess it up if this is progress.

Again, You mat not have that option, so don't worry about it right now. Do you have backups of all of your personal files from your hard drive? And do you have the installation DVD and driver disk from Dell?

Yes to backups. Yes to installtiom disk in drive (I suspect it is trying to boot off it now) no to driver disk. The installation disk didnt come with the machine. The machine was given to me hence the lack of manuals and disks. Where i am at the moment i have 2 optiions: Shut dowb and Restart (or open Command Prompt) Suggestions?

You should be able to download your manual and drivers from this link latitude E6440 - Dell - Search - For Home Download the manual and the Lan and WiFi driver as that is the only way to get online if you do a clean install. I recommend you read this tutorial and it gives a link to download an official ISO file of the installation disk, then burn it to a DVD or a USB Flash drive. Obviously, the disk you have will not boot. In the manual read on how to clear CMOS and reset to factory defaults. You have to be able to boot into bios and boot from a DVD/CD for us to help you. as i say im not too sure: it was along the lines of changing thre boot sequence to boot off the CD with the oem disk inside which allowed me to reinstall windows - thought i was screwed when it wanted the product key (which i cant read so i just clicked next and it carried on. Next thing it looked good so i removed the disk - rebooted and hey presto!

That's great. Glad you have it running. But, you are going to have to have that product key, I'm sure. But, glad you have it running right. Just install programs slowly and wait to see if it causes problems, then install another. That way if it is a program that is causing your problems, you will know which one it is. Good job.

is there a way of recovering the producy key from the installation?

There is if it's activated, but you can't recover something that's not there. Dell may be able to tell you if you bought it from them and you have the model and service tag number.

cgd, highlight computer, right click it and select properties. See if you have a validation sticker in the bottom right corner of the page or if it says you have x days to activate in the bottom left corner.
