Cant boot from USB (64x from a 32x)

After a day of messing around I still cannot get windows installed on my PC.

I'm trying to load windows 7 64x onto my usb drive however I have heard that you cannot put a 64x version onto a usb drive from a 32x.

I have 8GB of ram so 32x is completely useless to me, when trying to boot it detects the usb drive but doesn't find anything to boot from it. I've tried manually doing it and using a tool to make it bootable with the iso but with no luck

I cannot use a DVD drive as stupidly as it sounds my motherboard has no DVD ports. Am I stuck with 32x forever?

I believe that you can run the tool and create an X64 installer from an X86 (32 bit) system.

The bad news is that the USB drive is formatted as NTFS. I don't know if whether it's a universal requirement, but in order to do a UEFI installation with my Asus motherboard, the USB drive has to be formatted as FAT. (There's no real need to do a UEFI installation with my motherboard, so that's not tragic.)

What do you mean "my motherboard has no DVD ports"? I'm unaware of any "DVD ports" on any motherboard. DVD drives are usually SATA, or IDE on older systems. You can buy a new SATA DVD burner for less than $20, including shipping. (I suggest Newegg, if you're in the US or Canada.)

Sorry yeah, I meant IDE ports. I'm trying a direct ISO from the Windows Website before I go and buy anything again. I was using the files from my DVD before.

Good. If you don't need a UEFI installation, use the utility from Microsoft, and things should work.

I'm not sure how to generate the X64 installer in FAT32 (rather than NTFS) on a 32 bit Windows machine, if you need that.

External USB dvd would work. You do have USB ports, right? Yea it would cost more than an internal drive.

Hah yeah it's not that barebone

I've managed to install windows on a separate machine with a DVD drive, then move the HDD back over just installing updates etc. Seems to be going well, Let's hope it stays that way.

What always works for me is to write ISO to stick with UltraISO Software To Create Bootable USB Flash Drive

Thanks for all the suggestions, however I managed to get Windows installed.

I've had one BSOD so far and a game crash, looks like incompatible hardware since the update (Guessing my RAM). Returning the items and building a new PC
