At present I'm trying to upgrade my desktop to Windows 10. When I do there's a problem with the BCD and I'm attempting to get it back to "normal" as best I can. Right now, I'm running windows off of a 500GB SSD.
A few months ago I had a problem with the BCD. When I went to repair it with bootrec on a bootable USB key, it would find the windows install on my C: drive(it would refer to it as G
but wouldn't fix it with the error "System Device Cannot Be Found" however, when I tried this via the windows 7 bootable DVD, it wouldn't find any windows installs at all.
I was able to get the machine to boot again using Hiren's bootable cd using Lazesoft's boot fix but when I fixed the MBR, the loader screen changed. I'm guessing that had something to do with it. Is there anything I need to do in order to get bootrec to recognize and rebuild? I would prefer not doing a complete wipe/reinstall on this machine. I've already scanned the disc and no errors are present. Other than the boot loader issue, there doesn't seem to be any issues with the machine when it runs.
