Hi,
I've broken my system with what I suspect is malware (misclick on an advert on a sports streaming site).

Symptoms:
1. BSOD with 0x0000007B
2. Windows repair fails with 0xC0000225
3. bootrec from the recovery disk fails because it can't find the harddisk
4. diskpart from the recovery disk reports the disk as marked invalid, can't be brought online or recovered
5. However, all the data on the disk is present and accessible from a bootable linux drive (also backed everything up)
6. A linux mint install (with WUBI) works perfectly from the same disk

I'm thinking of trying:
How to fix “Invalid Disk” error in Windows 7 | Mike Norman's Blog

or

Error message occurs after you change the SATA mode of the boot drive

I got the second link from:repair invalid dynamic disk

Problems: Link 1 needs me to use a windows based hex editor to edit the disk. I don't have access to another PC to hook up this drive to (it's a laptop drive, I can pull it out, but I don't have the cables to connect to another system).
Link 2 needs me to use the registry editor, also something I can't do. Also, I'm not sure if that will actually fix it.

The last post entry on technet lists an elaborate thing using linux to do the hex edit listed in the first link. I haven't really understood it. Anyone have any ideas about how I should try to fix this?

Thanks!

The drive has not failed. I am running Mint from the same disk right now, and all the data is accessible. I suspect that the mountpoint (is that the right term) has been corrupted, and so windows isn't starting. Additionally, before this happened, I was forced into a shutdown by whatever malware it was (all programs exited sequentially, and then windows shut down). I'm pretty sure it's not the HDD.

How long has this been going on? you could try f11 and select system restore.

This happened a couple of nights ago. Spent the past two days trying everything I could find on the internet, nothing worked.
F11 restores to factory state, doesn't it? I don't want to do that just yet. The fact that all the data is there gives me hope that it might be fixable without a reinstall. In the worst case, I will bite the bullet and do a factory restore, but I'd like to see if there are alternatives.
