can't change resolution on my notebook

Hi! I just bought Asus K52f ex949 notebook and I have installed Windows 7 Home basic (32bit) and all the necessary drivers. But I only have 2 options for my screen resolution: 800x600 and 1024x768, and I need a better resolution (1366x768) because I have 15.6'' screen. My graphic card is Intel GMA4500MHD UMA but in the Device Manager-Displey adapter it says Standard VGA Graphics Adapter. When I tried to Update Driver it wouldn't allow me and it said: Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date. Please help me!!!

Ok, I may have found a solution, but I still need help. I should change some registry keys for Group policy settings, and I have found this: Download details: Group Policy Settings Reference for Windows and Windows Server
and I have downloaded it for Windows 7. I found there those 2 settings I need to change in order to prevent windows from automatically install it's own driver for my graphic card (number 173 and number 186 in the excel file) but I've never changed registry keys before. Can someone help me with that? All I know is I should use regedit program to do that...

Don't fool around there is there a reason you specifically need this resolution?
Or you just want your lettering larger or something.

You should download the intel driver for this laptop. The driver your currently using is out of date.

No, I really need it, because everything is blurry and unclear. I know how a screen should look like on this kind of notebook, and mine isn't even close!

I have the intel driver, but windows won't use it, it keeps installing its own driver and saying that it is up to date...

If you go into windows screen resolution: Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display\Screen Resolution,
then click on advanced settings. On the bottom left of the pop-up should be something that says "list all modes". click it and see if you can't use it to change to a higher res. Back at screen resolution, you could try "making text and other items larger or smaller" and see if that helps

If not there, then try the intel program, assuming they install an interactive program.

I recommend not messing with the registry, but if you know what you're doing, you might as well

It's not working, but thanks anyway! I've installed the driver, but nothing changes, in the Device Manager I still get Standard VGA Graphics Adapter... And in Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display\Screen Resolution when I click advanced settings and ''list all models'' I still get only those 2 resolutions... And if there is an Intel program I can't find it Desperate...

You said Windows won't let you install the driver. I know it sounds too simple but have you tried installing the driver in safe mode yet?

You know, I read something about vga on intel's download page, the page I sent you I believe. If it is only vga, chances are you're going to get a crappy resolution no matter what you do. I believe it is time for new laptop. There are excellent laptops for sale at just 600$, and there are many below 400$ that work perfectly fine, provided you aren't playing crisis or dragon age

I'm not sure about registry edits to force higher resolutions, as it is a resolution setting based on the functionality of your graphics card. If your graphics card sucks, it will list only the modes you are able to use, and they don't do it to screw with you. Its because in all likelyhood, any higher and it will be fuzzy and/or distorted.

If you do buy a new computer, make sure the card supports higher res.

I have solved the problem and it was soooo stupid, I'm even embarassed to tell you what it was, but I will anyway! The driver was the problem, as many of you have said... I got all the drivers on a cd in the store where I have bought my notebook, and some of them were all right, but they apparently didn't give me the right one for the graphic card so Windows has installed its own driver...so after all the solutions I have tried to find, I have returned to the simplest, the driver! I was fool to believe that those in the shop gave me the right one (but it had the same name as this one that works). So I found it on the Asus support sight, downloaded it, and now there's no problem!
My mistake, won't happen again...
