Can't clear CMOS

Yesterday I was, foolishly, messing around in BIOS. I changed the Primary Video Adapter from PCI to onboard, don't ask me why. Next I found that my screen went black. No information from the computer is received through the cabel even though the computer is powered on. I have tried resetting CMOS and removing the battery on motherboard but no good.

What should I do? Please help!

Welcome to SF!

Try removing the PCI card and using the onboard ports until you get the BIOS switched back.

You might not even have to remove the video card. Just try the onboard ports for now.

But if I remove the PCI card I have nowhere to plug my monitor, or am I misunderstanding?

You should have another monitor port on your motherboard somewhere. Take a look at the back of your machine.

When you remove the battery, you need to unplug your computer... It need to be completely unplugged. Leave it for 2-3 minutes... It'll reset by then.

ive just cleared my cmos by moving the jumpers after trying overclocking ram failed
With just the power lead inserted ,as soon as i heard the bleep confirming its posted
plug everything bag in and it works
but ive only ever done it on 2 asus boards

edit ---to post above ive cleared cmos before with it plugged accidently
and replaced a cpu aswell

You should have another monitor port on your motherboard somewhere. Take a look at the back of your machine.

To take it a step further, here are the specs for the motherboard in question,

Motherboard Specifications, A8M2N-LA (NodusM) - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

The blue #12 port is the onboard video connector. Connect your monitor to that and enter the bios and make the necessary changes, then reconnect it to the video card.

I would also temporarily remove your video card. Once you have done that, go back into your BIOS and set the appropriate option to Auto. You should now be able to reinsert your video card and use that. Don't forget to disconnect your system from the mains supply whilst you are removing/reinserting your video card.

Thanks alot, I got it working now. But I think I have messed things up trying to fix the problem, all kinds of weird things happening. Think I'll try to reinstall windows and hope its not damaged hardware.
