hello i think that my on-board sound device is going to die because when i listening music or watching films the sound once fade away a little then after while burst again its like someone plays with the volume wheel slightly up and down. I am already updated the driver and it didn't help and i know my speakers are great (Creative Inspire T6100 5.1)

Now i have to options that i'm trying to decide:
1.Buy Creative Audigy Value 7.1 but the problem is that in my motherboard has 2 PCI Slots. One is occupied with a PCTV-card and the other slot is blocked by the cooling unit of my video card. Therefore if i want to buy internal sound card i need to buy an external pctv card.

2.Buy Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1
With external sound card i can keep my internal pctv but i read some bad reviews to this sound card, some problems that could occur with maybe USB or my computer isn't strong enough; here my PC specs:
pentium 4 3.ghz
ASUS P5GD1 mother board
RAM 2 GB
GeForce 9600GT
WIN XP x86

One Pro is that will improve my laptop sound and its a big pro i would realy like to connect my laptop to 5.1 sound system. Also it is the cheaper option, but still i'm afraid about those reviews that i read.

Please those of you that have expirience with Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 tell what you think and help me decide

If I were you I would try and fix what I had. Have you check in device manager to see if your driver is installed and working correctly?

(type device manager in search and go to the sound tab) look to see if it is listed and does not have a yellow triangle on it

Let us know if you need help

i'm 100% sure that its a hardware problem, i reinstaled the driver, get updates for the driver, instaled new windows.
I think because its an old motherboard (5 years i got it) the amplifiers inside are weak, when i touch the connectors there is no change so the holes are fine so it has to be something deep in to the electronics of the sound card

I used an Audigy USB external card on a laptop for nearly 6 years w/o issue and it still works great, I don't know if an external PC/TV card will work as well as your internal one but if that one is working well with W7 I'd leave it alone and go with an external sound card.

Right click on the Microsoft speaker icon, select playback devices, select your Default Playback Device (green check mark). Then select the "Properties" box in the lower right. Select the "Enhancements" tab.

Scroll down mane sure "Loudness Equalization" is NOT selected, if it is, deselect.

Next: Start at the beginning, right click MS speaker icon, select recording devices, select the "Communications" Tab, select "Do Nothing".

Might want to reboot now.

May or may not help but worth a try!
