My com can't display chinese and korean fonts whenever I go into either website. and I also can't type Korean, chinese and japanese language anymore. I did go to Regional and language options
but the drop down menu DID NOT show these 3 language which I want and I try clicking the "install files for East Asian languages" but its need me to insert the CD. Is that anyway which I don't need to have the cd.
Is something like this when I go into korean website.

(is just only the title which didn't show the font)

I hope you will understand what I mean...

Use Windows Update to see if language packs are available.

Hi there
There are some language packs for VISTA SP2 (Chinese and Korean) - don't know if these would work.

Actually I'm SURE I saw some chinese W7 language packs available.

Cheers

Maybe you need to install some unicode FONTS?

Start here. IF you don't know where to go from there click here. After you download the CharisSIL font, open the windows font folder, hit ALT if you don't see "file" and then "install new fonts".

Did you already have that OS set up to switch between different languages? Can you "change keyboards" in the Language Options? It wont let you "ADD" any?

What I did was I searched "fonts" from the start menu and then clicked VIEW INSTALLED FONTS then FONT SETTINGS and then unchecked the HIDE FONTS BASED ON LANGUAGE SETTING. After that ii restarted my computer and when I checked my itunes (cause it has all the korean, chinese, japanese characters ii have from the songs) the characters were back. So far, I haven't had any problems with doing it this way but if there is...let me know! :)

displaying non-Roman fonts in Windows 7 (squares)

Hello ags, I followed your original advice, re: unchecking "Hide fonts" and I was thrilled when it worked! BUT, SUDDENLY MY FONTS HAVE ALL GONE BACK TO SQUARES! It must be the result of a recent "Windows Update" install, which "fixed" the loophole :( Do you have this problem now? If so, do you have a new solution to offer? Thanks! I just want to be able to DISPLAY FONTS IN OTHER LANGUAGES, not view my system in another language -- There is no reason for Microsoft not to allow this?

I went to this other website and tried the suggestion he made and it actually worked. Here's what he said:

HTML:
If you are having problems with distorted fonts it is probably because the font cache data got corrupted

To fix this, try deleting the file C:\Windows\System32\FNTCACHE.DAT and restart your Win7. Don’t worry, this file will be re-created at startup.

I hope this help you with the problem.

I just searched that directory from the search box and deleted it & restarted my comp. I went to my itunes and I could see the characters now. Hope that helps you! :)

hi !

i'm experiencing the same problem, for a couple of days.
i have a lot of asian fonts and suddently, i can't see the japanese chinese ans korean fonts. I have a korean hotmail, and i can see the words. I'm listening to korean music, and i can see it on VLC but when i open the music folder, i can see squares only.

is it an update problem ? i've been looking for solutions on french websites, but couldn't find anything, nobody's talking about the problem but you.

what should we do ? how can we report it ?

Hi, I'm actually having the same problem and I'm wondering if anyone has found a fix yet?

The only music I listen to is Korean music and my iTunes looks horrid now. It has been working perfectly for over a year now but when I just did an update a couple of days ago all of the Korean characters turned to boxes and I can't figure out how to turn them back.

I noticed most of these comments are fairly old so just checking to see if anyone has a new fix.

Thanks!
Rebekah

Found a possible solution

I fixed my problem by deactivating the buttont that said "Hide fonts depending on system language" or something like that, I don't have english as system language so it might be a wierd translation but...
Go to control panel, go to fonts, press the button "font settings" located on the left, deactivate the button that says something like "Hide fonts according to system language"
Had to register here since I found the solution, hope it helps! :)

EDIT: This was not the thing that helped me apparently. After booting the computer I am unable to see korean fonts, so what I do is just log off and log back in again and it works.

What I did was: I installed the korean fonts as normal, but after every reboot of my computer I am unable to see the korean fonts until I log out of windows and then log back in to windows.

complete tutorial available here with screenshots : https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B9bTC6WLRnCpR0tfWWJ0MzdBZHc

1. START MENU > type fonts in the search box

2. CLICK ON fonts

3. Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Fonts

4. CLICK ON fonts settings AT THE TOP OF THE LEFT PANE MENU

5. A WINDOW WILL POP UP, JUST UNCHECK THE BOX WHICH SAYS hide fonts based on language settings

6. RESTART YOUR COMPUTER

YOU SHOULD NOW BE ABLE TO SEE ASIAN CHARACTERS, SUCH AS KOREAN AND JAPANESE, INSTEAD OF SQUARE BOXES.

ENJOY !
