Solved Can't find DVD drive in Windows Explorer after Driver Reinstallation

Greetings,
I can't find the DVD drive for my Toshiba Qosmio X305-Q705 Gaming Laptop. In the General tab of the (HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T50F) property window, the following status was shown:

"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"

I removed and reinstalled the driver for the DVD drive, but the same problem reappears. I gone through the procedure to remove the upper and lower filters in the registry (Your CD drive or DVD drive is missing or is not recognized by Windows or other programs). I have done everything in that link with no change in the problem. The DVD drive is a Hitachi HTS723232L9A360. I went to the Hitachi website, with no results.

I am cash strapped, so I can't afford to use application like "driver doctor" (that scan your pc for problems, then claim to repair the problem for a fee). I consider that a form of deception to download their application. Would like to know where I can find the link for the DVD drive listed above in this post.

thank you for your response. I checked the computer in windows explorer. The DVD drive does not appear in the explorer box. However, the DVD drive is seen in the Device Manager window. The drive tray does work. I inserted a disc to see if it would read the program on it. I see a response on the LED light on the drive, then nothing after that.

Can you see your dvd drive in device manager ? If yes , uninstall the dvd drive in the device manager then restart the computer .. Should fix the problem ..

Can you see your dvd drive in device manager ? If yes , uninstall the dvd drive in the device manager then restart the computer .. Should fix the problem ..

Did that. uninstalled both the drive and driver from the device manager, then clicked on "search for hardware changes" The DVD drive is found but the same problem returns.

No! They will tell you which drivers need updating.They promise to install them for free, not fee!l have downloaded many drivers in the past,but never had to pay a cent!

No! They will tell you which drivers need updating.They promise to install them for free, not fee!l have downloaded many drivers in the past,but never had to pay a cent!

I downloaded and installed "DriveScanner", and sure enough, The scan was free, but they asked for a fee to replace the drivers.

Update: I bit the bullet and performed a clean re-installation of win 7 Ultimate (64 bit) OS. I installed the drivers I got from the Toshiba support website, one at a time to see if there would be any conflicts, making sure to create a restore point first. Sure enough, the DVD drive disappeared from the windows explorer and the device manager window stated that "it was corrupted" while installing the "Toshiba Disc Creator for Windows 7 (64)". I rolled back to the restore point and started over reinstalling the drivers, this time omitting the disc creator application. The driver installation process went smoothly. In my case with my Toshiba x305 gaming laptop the problem seem to be with one of the toshiba applications (which I don't use anyway). To those that have Toshiba laptop (especially if you have gaming laptops like mine). Bottom line, look for application conflicts along with the advices that are mention on this forum and in other sites on the net.
