Solved While installing Win 7 can't find DVD drivers on Vista

Friend has a Vista 32 bit and he just bought a Win 7 installation disk. Keep getting the message "A req CD/DVD drive dev driver is missing....." when installing 7.

Someone suggested f8 on Vista boot and selecting Disabled Driver Signature Enforcement. But then just boots to Vista. Tried rebooting right after that with Win 7 disk in but still got the driver missing window.

Tried right clicking on the dvd in Device Mgr and updating and pointing to the Win 7 disk. No result. Searched for update driver but nothing there, also.

Someone suggested a new DVD player, but others mention they had same issue even with that option.

Is it some strange device 99% of dvd/cd dont need special drivers have you tried up dating via internet. has it worked before no conflicts? Its possible there are no 64 bit drivers you could try dvd makers site

It's an Agere player apparently, who was bought by and bought by.... No luck yet finding newer drivers.
Would I want updated driver for the Vista laptop currently or try to update dvd with a Win 7 driver?

It could be a bad downlaod, or a bad burn of the iso, or even a damaged dvd.

Try using the official MS installation iso file.

So if I use the iso, (which is the same as my Repair disk that I burned for my Win7 Hope Premium 32 bit?) I'll be able to use the Product Key that they included?

No, installation media is not the same as the repair disc. It is much larger because it contains the installation files.

What edition is your product key?

If your product key is home premium, then you need to install home premium edition.
If your product key is Ultimate, then you need to install Ultimate edition.etc

Whatever product key you have, you can download the Ultimate .iso - because all the MS isos contain all editions.

The trick is to point this at the iso you downloaded, all editions will then be available.

Then EITHER
Burn the iso to dvd. If you running win7 or newer, rt click the iso and select "Burn disc image"

OR
extract to bootable usb stick.

As I look at the disk and Key closer I see the disk is Win 7 Home Pro Ultimate and the Prod Key label says Win 7 Home Premium.

Windows loaded past the page it froze at before. Installing now.

So it loaded. It didn't ask which version of 7 to load. Computer says it's 7 Ultimate. I think my Product Key says Home Premium. Doesn't want to take the Key.

Geez, I overlooked that. Guess I have to burn a new one. After I was loading stuff on this Windows already.
Since my sticker says Win 7 Home Premium, I should select 7 H.P. to load.

Yup.

Run eicfg removal tool, browse to the iso. It is almost instant.

Then burn it to dvd.

When you boot it, you will get to select the edition.

Highlight the edition you have a key for, then click Next

Wow, takes a whole 3 seconds to run the eicfg removal.

Not necessary. The first windows that pops up select Install Now. The edition selection screen ( pictured above ) appears after that . later on it asks if you want to input your key - or you can select skip and enter it after installation is complete. You have 30 days to enter the key.

Wow, just noticed that there's HP over the barcode on the Prod Key sticker. Will that block putting it on Toshiba?
