Can't get Flash Player to associate with .swf files?

In my work environment, we have .swf files that when right-clicked to Open, are supposed to open in Adobe Flash Player. However my computer hasn't been completely set up. When I tried that, Win7 tried to open it with Winamp. Looked through my Start menu Programs and didn't see Flash Player.

Downloaded and installed from Adobe.com. However, when I now try to go into default programs and associate the .swf file type with Flash Player, that app doesn't show up as an option. What to do???

Hello okieuser and welcome to Seven Forums. If Flash Player isn't suggested as a program you need to press the Browse button and navigate to the program file and select it.

That's the baffling part. When I browse for Flash Player in Programs, it's not there. If I try to run the installer again, it goes through the whole process and indicates successful (again) but still doesn't show up when I use the browse function you describe.

Solved my own problem. The standard Flash Player at Adobe is a browser plugin. I googled "flash player standalone" and found an Adobe download page with a version named "Windows Flash Player 11.1 Projector (EXE, 7.76MB)"

Had to copy the file that downloads into the Programs folder, because it's not an installer; it's a ready-to-go app. After going into Default Programs and selecting .swf and browsing to the new Adobe file, I ran a test by right-clicking a local .swf file. Sure enough, it open right on my screen independent of any browser!

Ah yes the plugin is the default download. Glad you got it sorted.
