Hello,

I have an HP Officejet J4660 that was working fine on Windows XP but after I migrated to Windows 7 x64 Ultimate the PC recognize the product as an Unknown Device, so I can't use it. All the USB ports are ok, I've downloaded the W7 x64 version of the drivers and read all the troubleshooting on HP's site but none of the solutions given get it to work. I've even tried to make it work installing the Vista version of the driver, through compatibility mode, and got nothing.

Could you help me on this one?

Thanks in advance!

Try unplugging usb of printer from PC and uninstalling all of the software, reboot and then go to website and download software and install printer as if you were installing it for the first time.

Hey bassfisher, thanks for the response. I did it several times and the situation doesn't change. I even bought a USB 2.0 cable thinking that the problem was the original cable but the "USB Device not Recognized" message keeps showing up...

Have you run a system check for bugs, spyware and malware? Could be some sort of corruption or registry cliché. I would recommend running Malwarebytes, Spybot S&D, Adaware, CCleaner. These are all free of the net. Download and run each one. Then run your Antivirus software...ie MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials). Then reboot and try installing printer again.

I see from the HP web site there is an upgrade patch for upgrading from Vista to 7. There is also a software and driver removal utility. Download and run the removal utility and then follow the above suggetion. Here the link.

I bought the printer last year and HP offers support to Win7, so I think that's not the problem. I'll do what you suggested on the other post and tell you if it worked.

Thanks again!

As I expected, the print continues to be recognized as an Unknown Device. Do you think it could be a problem with the printer itself or it's just some compatibility issue?
