Solved Can't get into Windows after overclocking my screen

Hello,


I used cru-1.4.2 to overclock my screen from 1920x1080p@60 Hertz to 1920x1080p@75 today, which worked just fine without any issue, it really looked great especially when I play a FPS game. Right after that I tried to overclock my screen even further using a lower resolution (i used 1280x720) and that worked until I got to 79, right after I tried 80 it didn't go back to my desktop but was stuck in the "Input out of range" error message and I can't really boot into Windows 7 unless I use safe mode.

That means, somewhere Windows must have saved these settings and I don't know where, I tried to look it up on google but i found nothing there(I'm in Germany so I don't know if it's any different somewhere else) so I decided to register here to explain my problem in more detail. Is it possible to reset these Screen settings somewhere while using safe mode? I know it uses another setting for safe mode which is just my standard 60 Hertz but I know that in normal mode it uses now a higher Hertz setting and it just wouldn't revert these settings back to normal no matter how long I wait in front of my monitor displaying the Input out of range message.


Thanks for reading and if you can help me with that without having to reinstall my entire system(and if I made grammatical or spelling mistakes, please forgive me, because I'm actually German and I didn't want to write everything just with Google Translate and i've been learning english for only a year at this point)

Safe mode may allow you to go back in and revert your screen refresh rate back to native. But it depends on how this "overclock" program works. If it's via a DLL then safe mode may work. Or simply try removing the whole damn "overclock" program via safe mode. And when I say safe mode, I don't mean use safe mode with networking or other options. You want the first safe mode.

If that doesn't work then you can try to initialize a SFC /scannow via boot up. I can explain how that's done latter.

Never change your native monitor refresh rate. It has that rate for a reason. Overclocking it will have ill effects as you have now discovered. And if you chose to overclock a CPU, never use software to do so. Always do it via the BIOS.

Hey, thank you for your reply very much.


I was able to solve the problem using the SFC method you suggested trying to me after I looked it up on a different Computer I still had and I was able to revert it back to 75 Hertz. The higher refresh rate is important to me because I play a lot of FPS games like Half-Life Deathmatch or Quake Deathmatch and I got that PC 3 years ago and before that I had a very old PC which could only support games like this(the newest game I could run on it was Minecraft) and I had a old CRT screen which could display more frames than my current screen can do and I just wanted to change that and now it feels like i'm playing games on my old CRT monitor and it just feels awesome.


I won't set my monitor back to 60 Hertz though, unless I experience any problems with 75 Hertz, then I will change my mind, but thank you for reading and helping, i'm not much of a pro when it comes to PCs to be honest but i'm interested in this subject very much. 80 Hertz is obviously just too much I guess!


Don't worry about my CPU, I'm not planning on overclocking any of my Hardware except for my screen which is important to me because I'm playing a lot of classic FPS games and I just can't afford a new screen to be honest.


I also didn't have to reinstall Windows so thanks a lot, that really saved me up a whole lot of work and problems because my internet is crap so I would have to download about 20 games again...
