Hope someone can help. It's been a nightmare ever since doing factory restore with discs from acer. Do not have windows 7 install discs to try and get windows to boot so I installed ibuntu to see if hard drive still good. Ibuntu loaded and worked. Did restore with disks and now grub rescue. Windows repair disc doesn't work. I believe this is an mbr problem. Right now stuck at grub rescue. Would like to delete ibuntu and just use windows but would be happy to just boot windows as default. Any help at this point would be greatly appreciated. Acer no help at all.

Download a Windows 7 ISO from mydigitallife.info.

Burn it to a disk.

Install and activate with your existing product key.

Delete all partitions during the install.

cant load windows

Thanks Greg & Ignatz,

After aprox 1 month finally up and running with windows 7. Solved it before reading your replies but many thanks. Heres what I did in case someone is interested. After attempting fix using bootable windows sytem repair disk, going into command prompt and trying to fix Mbr (unsuccessfully) I decided to wipe the drive completely using KillDisk on my ultimate boot cd. Did it twice and then PCsweep once. Made sure the 289.8 mb partition was completely wiped. Acer had told me to wipe ONLY the 100 mb partition which I did and that ended up causing all my of problems. I know now that ALL partitions must be completely wiped from the hard drive before factory recovery. Did this in the am and the recovery went flawlessly. If you guys only knew how much time and effort went into this between reading erroneous info on other forums, talking with repair experts etc, you'd appreciate where i'm coming from. I was told by so called experts that my hd was definetlly bad even though a scan said otherwise and ibuntu could load and work. I hope this info prevents anyone else having this problem from going through the mill as I have done.

yes, since I didnt have windows install discs I did factory restore using purchased discs from acer which have windows install on them. There is alot of bloatware which i manually uninstall. A virus initially crashed my laptop and couldnt even boot. wasnt smart enough to make backup disks but no important files on this unit. What ticked me off was the wrong info given to me by acer pertaining to the partition. All they wanted me to do was send them the laptop so they could repair it for an initial charge of $199.99. They too told me the hard drive was probably bad.

Did you even read Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7?

The reason I said "Everything you need is in link" is because the latest official Win7 ISO with SP1 is included along with a tool to write to flash stick or burn to DVD.

I certainly wouldn't pay money for a bunch of sponsored crapware and useless utilties which second guess Win7.

I read it and was about to download the windows 7 ISO with SP1 but had already solved the problem. Purchased the factory restore disks 2 weeks prior. I believe it said the download was about 4 hrs. I'm going to do a download for future use to eliminate bloatware. Also have shown it to several people and they are doing downloads as well. Thanks for the great info.
