I have a gateway DX 4200, I just did a clean install of windows 7 64 bit... I have a geforce 9600 in my pci express, slot, wont recognize it in device manager and I cant install any drivers. Can somebody tell me how to make this work, I know very little about computers.

Hi there.... ;)

the 9600GT requires an additional 6pin connection from the PSU, according to your system specs (DX4200) you only have a 300w power supply which very likely does NOT have a dedicated 6pin for 3rd party GFX..:(

the 9600GT requires a minimum of 400w with 26A on the 12v rail, im guessing your PSU is not powering the card correctly...

Haha, well that would make sense, before I was using the geforce 9500 and it was working fine, i didnt know they were different... what would be the best way for me to take care of it?

That's a good find SS, if it's true. I have my doubts though because AGP cards that need the connector - and without it - will refuse the bios to post. PCI-e may or may not be the same.

It could be that a bios update is needed instead to get rid of exclamation points in the device manager. And/or disable all unused ports in bios like parallel, serial, com, floppy etc...

So both solutions should be looked at to determine which it is. Could even be both needed.
