Can't leave unwanted Homegroup ?

Have a home network with 3 PC's running XP and 2 running Win7 Pro. (attached homegroupmap.jpg - 3 items at bottom of jpg are XP)

Must have unknowingly created a Homegroup without understanding what it is when we updated 2 PC's to Win 7 Pro a few months ago.

MaryAnn-PC has/is a Homegroup ( homegroup2.jpg attached )....Home_Desktop is not in a Homegroup

When I try to "leave" the Homegroup on MaryAnn-PC...I get the following error after opening Control Panel-Homegroup-Leave the Homegroup and clicking on leave the group twice ( homegroupleave.jpg attached )

Also...if I try to change the password in my phantom Homegroup...I get the following error saying Windows can not set up a HomeGroup on this computer ? ( homegroup3.jpg attached )

Hope someone can help me here and let me know how to get rid of this Homegroup on the 1 Windows 7 PC...ie....MaryAnn-PC

Hi MaryAnn and welcome

Homegroup is primarily for all win 7 networks. Since you have a mixed network you should be using "workgroup" instead. It is more stable and uses Ipv4 instead of IPv6.

This is fairly easy to do and kills the need to "leave" the homegroup. All you need to do is to create a new network connection using workgroup and if it works correctly, disable IPv6 and kill homegroup.

Thanks Ken...already had a "WORKGROUP" set up under XP before installing Win 7 Pro via clean install on MaryAnn-PC using Windows Easy Transfer...so I'm assuming that's where the existing WORKGROUP on the problem PC (MaryAnn-PC) came from.

In otherwords...there's the existing and previous WORKGROUP on the PC and also a HomeGroup ?

I can not find a way to remove/delete the existing WORKGROUP...just able change it's name...tried that but still can't remove the HomeGroup on MaryAnn-PC ?

What am I missing here...?

You don't delete workgroups, they are around forever. If you want to "delete" a homegroup, you just leave it.

Thanks again Ken...but this is where I started...when I follow the video...I end up with the attached error in homegroupleave.jpg ?

Let's check a few things. Click on the orb, type services, then click on Services (the one with the gear icon next to it). Scroll down to HomeGroup Listener and HomeGroup Provider. Are either of them disabled? Are either of them started?

Next, look for Peer Name Resolution Protocol, Peer Networking Grouping, and Peer Networking Identity Manager. Are any of them disabled? Are any of them started?
