I've just suddenly lost my keyboard function on starting up my PC today so can't log in to Windows. I've tried various options incl all other ports (5), safe mode, previous good config, and checking the USB support in the Bios but nothing is making any difference to the problem. Thankfully I've a dual-boot machine and have XP still installed which is what I'm using to write this, and it shows the keyboard is working fine otherwise. :huh:

I didn't do anything yesterday that I can think of that might be responsible for the problem, and obviously without access to the OS can't change anything anyway if there was. I do have a couple of old restores, but would rather not have to use them, and since I can't get back into Win 7 just at the minute to do a more up-to-date backup, equally not too keen to have to consider a reinstall.

=================
Have solved the problem. As ever, thanks to a superb backup program which I had set up to save a System Image as well as other backups, I was able to restore the proper driver files to sort out the problem. I'd discovered the kb drivers had been corrupted somehow so once they were restored, I was up and running again. Now stuck with another problem, but will hold off asking for help on it just yet as I think I'm heading towards a proper Restore or worse, a Reinstall if I can't get it sorted out.

Any suggestions??

for the future if it didn't work, you can reinstall without formating, all files and folders in the partition that you used to install Windows 7 on will be but in a folder called: Windows.old in this way you will not lose anything and save time trying to fix and might fail in every time. now talking about your next problem :p

Hi,

In your BIOS, check to see that something called LEGACY USB or LEGACY USB SUPPORT is enabled. This option in the BIOS is specifically designed to allow keyboards and mice to work without the need for the drivers to be loaded.

Regards,
Golden
