Can't Open Pictures and New User Accounts

My computer suddenly tells me it can't open my pictures on one of my user accounts by asking what file do I want to use to open it or to go online to search for an opening file. I tried to start a new user account, and I'm told I need to tell what file I want to use to complete and open this account. Does anyone out there have any ideas what may be causing this problem? I'll appreciate any and all answers.

First and foremost:

Update your SevenForums System Specs
User CP (located on the top menu bar) |
Your Profile | Edit System Spec (left-hand column)

To gather info, use Speccy (my favorite) or SIW or System Info

In the System Manufacturer Block, enter:
Manufacturer and Model and
ADD the word laptop, desktop, netbook or tablet.
For example:
Toshiba Satellite L305D notebook.

Provide full windows version info, for example:
MS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit

Use the “Other Info” block for Optical Reader,
Mouse, touchpad, wifi adapter, speakers, monitor, etc

Scroll down and click on SAVE CHANGES.

You will find that in Speccy, you can select info from the display
using your mouse/touchpad and then paste that info into your specs.

SIW is a marvelous program, but the free version does not offer
this capability.

Now only if you are using one of those super-duper speed up your computer wonder programs, then you, without any work on your part, have System Restore points.

this will show you how to view your restore points. Choose one that corresponds to a time before the problem appeared.
RESTORE TO A PREVIOUS SYSTEM RESTORE POINT
1) WIN | type SYSTEM RESTORE | ENTER | NEXT
| Choose a different restore point radio button | NEXT
2) Show more restore points checkbox (lower left)
3) Highlight the desired restore point
4) Scan for affected programs (lower right)make a note of affected programs
5) CLOSE | NEXT | FINISH


WIN = key with the wavy Microsoft flag on top.

Hello Haplyss,

If you mean that it will not open your "My Pictures" folder, then as a test, see if downloading and merging the folder, Directory, drive, and library-ms options listed in the tutorial below may be able to help. They will restore the default associations for them.

If not, then you could also do a system restore at boot using a restore point (if available) dated before this happened to hopefully undo and fix this.

I have a Gateway computer, 64 bit, DX4822-01, with Intel pentium E5300 Dual Core, 2.6GHZ each, 6GB ram, and 1TB HDD, running Windows 7 Home Premium x 64 bit.

I can open the file folder, but can't open any pictures. I did a system restore back to 06/18/2012, the farthest I could go, and I have the same problem.

In that case, check in Default Programs to make Windows Photo Viewer the default program to open all of it's associations with. Afterwards, see if you are able to open the pictures with them opening in Windows Photo Viewer.
