Maybe it depends on the Video file if it is HD Resolution or Low.

What kind of videos are we talking about? Im assuming a encoded file of some form?

If a encoded file, Alot does depend on the file.

For example, say the file was encoded at 720 or 1080P, but with a very low bit rate such as 1K or so. Or, low settings in encoder so that it would encode faster.
In this case, it may look good on a small screen. Tablets/Phone etc. as the smaller size covers up the encoded defects.

But when you put it on a bigger screen, all the flaws start popping out. Compression artifacts for example will really jump out and be noticeable.

Try Bluray, DVD, Netflix, VUDU etc. If those all look good, its likely just the file itself was poorly encoded.
If so, theres nothing you can do to make it better other than recode it from the original source.

My LG TV will play them, and fill the screen. But it will not Upscale any encoded/streamed file as will say a DVD.
It displays it at whatever resloution it was encoded at, and fills the screen. Which is why you really want at least 720p, depending on the size of the screen.
