How to get Windows Media Player to play videos?

I have VLC player on my computer, it works find but its one more program I could get rid of if I could play my music videos with Windows Media Player.

Iv opened WMP but i cant get it to play my music vids, as yet.

Can you walk me through opening WMP and getting all my videos in to it, and playing them please, or do you suggest I use VLC?

Which format are they in ?
WMP works best with .WMV formats
If they can open with windows movie maker just see if you can save them in .wmv format.

As shipped, WMP has codecs for only a small subset of video formats while VLC and others (my personal favorite is Daum Pot Player) come installed with a much larger set of codecs for various video formats.

A popular codec pack for WMP is the K-Lite codec pack. You can download it here: https://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm

I am using VLC player without any problem, even on other codec.

If you wish to use another player, such WMP for playing .wmv files, instead of VLC.

At the file which end with .wmv itself, right-click and select "Open with..."
On the window bottom left, put the check mark on the box, then select and click on the WMP icon.

Do note that this will change ALL files ending with .wmv will be using WMP player.
