Hello.

Please forgive me in advance for some of my spelling / grammar mistakes as English is not really my first language. Even so, I will try to make this post as clear as possible.

So here is my problem. I have an Acer Aspire 4540 laptop that I recently repaired after laying in my closet with a broken display for some time. So I took it to a repair center and got my new 14' LED display installed. Everything on my laptop is working fine, even my screen is working fine. The only issue I've noticed is that when I try to increase or decrease my screen brightness it cycles between the max and min settings rather than dimming or brightening respectively.

Now, I know I've had this issue before but I can't remember if it was already like this before the screen broke. I have tried rolling back, uninstalling and reinstalling my drivers several times yet the issue is still there.

Im running on Windows 7 Ultimate x86 and my graphics card is an ATI Radeon HD4200.

I know this is a small issue but I need to fix it since I spend a lot of time in front of my laptop.

Thanks in advance for your help.

There's a handy little freeware program called Quick Gamma, which (if it works for you) should be set to fire up with Windows and it's usually capable of taming wayward displays... ;)

Thanks for your replies Arc and Qdos.

I followed both ways described in your replies but the problem isn't really in my color settings but in the intensity of the backlight on the screen itself.

Again, thank you for your help :)

Is there any button on your laptop that controls your laptop's monitor setup ?

Hi again, sorry for taking so long to reply.

Is there any button on your laptop that controls your laptop's monitor setup ?

Yes I can set it up with FN+(Right or Left arrow keys). It used to work before but whenever I try this right now it my screen switches between max and min brightness with no in-betweens.

how about this.

Elite Freeware: Quickly dim your screen with DimScreen

Thanks I actually tried DimScreen but it actually darkens my screen colors rather than dimming it's backlight.

I think this might be a compatibility problem with the new screen. If you guys can come up with a solution for this I'd be extremely grateful. My screen is drying my battery AND my eyes out.

Thanks for your help everyone.
