Solved Can't remove a virus (or a PUP?) from my computer

Hello

I somehow got 2 programs that cannot be removed. When I uninstall them, they just keep reappearing at boot.
I don't know if that's a virus or a PUP, but it's really annoying.

The 2 programs are "FixMyRegistry" and "SpeedUpMyComputer" by "SmartTweak" ( Who are the *******s behind this "company" ?! )

Everytime I try to uninstall any of the two programs, the other one returns. For example, I remove FixMyRegistry, and at the next boot SpeedUpMyComputer shows and so on . .

I tried Revo Uninstaller and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware but it doesn't work.
Is there a way to manually remove these programs? Or do you think the best thing would be to perform a clean install of Windows?

Btw, these programs are used to steal passwords or usernames?

It's sneakware that comes in with freeware installs, often hidden in the license agreement or by tricky checkbox choices. What exactly happens when you attempt to uninstall these and any other interlopers in Control Panel>Programs? This method of uninstall is all that is normally needed in Win7.

If not then run a full scan with SUPERAntiSpyware - Downloads which will root out most spyware as deep as it goes. I always run this with Malwarebytes as they are complementary.

If that fails try to System Restore before you installed the program which brought them, or to your earliest restore point.

If you want to reinstall then follow these same steps to get and keep and perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which compiles everything that works best in tens of thousands of installs we've helped with here.

1.) Download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.

• Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool

• Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
• Click on the Scan button.
• AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
• After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R#].txt) will open in Notepad for review (where the largest value of # represents the most recent report).
• The contents of the log file may be confusing. Unless you see a program name that you know should not be removed, don't worry about it. If you see an entry you want to keep, let me know about it.
• Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
• A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.

2.) Using AdwCleaner v3: Scan & Clean:

Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool again.
Click on the Scan button.
AdwCleaner will begin to scan your computer like it did before.
After the scan has finished...

This time click on the Clean button.
Press OK when asked to close all programs and follow the onscreen prompts.
Press OK again to allow AdwCleaner to restart the computer and complete the removal process.
After rebooting, a logfile report (AdwCleaner[S#].txt) will open automatically (where the largest value of # represents the most recent report).
Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.


3.) Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.

• Shutdown your antivirus to avoid any conflicts.
• Right click over JRT.exe and select Run as administrator on Windows Vista or Windows 7, double-click on XP.
• The tool will open and start scanning your system.
• Please be patient as this can take a while to complete.
• On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
• Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next reply message
• When completed make sure to re-enable your antivirus

I worked on a PC last week with a similar problem. Malwarebyes and Superantispyware were of no help.

Glad to hear it. Do a full scan with malwarebytes (update it first) and super antispyware (update it first)

Report back what they find if any. I also highly suggest scanning with a full scan of your antivirus.

Did junkware removal tool find anything?
