I installed a clean copy of W7 over W10. It worked and W7 works fine. BUT for the life of me I cant get the wireless connection going on my Samsung laptop. It's confusing because I've never had to do anything on other installs, I already have a desktop working with W7 (cable connected) and when I installed the previous W10 on the laptop it just connected. I'm using a BT home hub, W7 home, Samsung RV510 laptop.

I've gone through the setup procedure a dozen times. The result is always - 'Error 651 The modem or other connecting device is reporting an error'
WAN Miniport (PPP03)

Am I doing something wrong here? Isnt 'WAN' a physical network? I'm selecting 'New wireless connection'.

Thanks

Open CMD prompt type
Ipconfig /all. Post results does the wireless show up OK in device manager it sounds as if your trying to setup a dial up connection you should just have a wireless icon in taskbar

In Device manager under Other devices and against Network controller is a yellow exclamation mark. I can see no yellow triangles anywhere. I tried updating the driver for the Network controller and the result is a driver cant be found on the laptop. I cant connect the laptop to the net without the wireless link. I'm using a desktop to write this.

Just to say I downloaded W7 from MS onto a DVD. The driver isnt found on that DVD either.

Cracked it. Worked after I downloaded over 2000 W7 updates taking over seven hours!

Check to make sure your Wireless Zero Configuration service is started.
Click on Start -> Run
then type in services.msc and then hit OK
The Services window will open up, now scroll down to the Wireless Zero
configuration on the right window panel. Double click on it.
And then make sure the startup type is on Automatic and then click on the
Start button. Now click on the OK button.
Now go to your network properties and you should see your Wireless Network
Connections. Right click it, and then choose properties. When the
properties page comes up, you should see a Wireless tab. You can then put
in your wireless settings in there.

Thanks. It's working now but I'll make a note of that for the future. Cheers.
