Lets try this again, I guess I wasn't clear enough last time, and see it is easy to get those errors you got:

In order:
- Open cmd and copy below command and paste in cmd (it will copy to clipboard automatically)

echo %username% |clip

- CTRL+V to your next reply
- switch back to cmd, copy below command and paste in cmd:

net localgroup administrators |clip

- CTRL+V to your next reply

For example mine would look like:

gkhna

Alias name administrators
Comment Administrators have complete and unrestricted access to the computer/domain
Members
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Administrator
gkhna
The command completed successfully.

Disabling the server under services.msc did the trick. All is well. Thanks all and thanks Callender. Chuck

As long as OP is happy, I am too. However, I believe there is some underlying problem that isn't addressed (most likely some permission issue in registry?) and shutting down server only covered it.

Are you sure you have administrator rights?

Please do these (copy the command below and right click inside cmd and select paste):
- Open cmd

echo %username% |clip

- paste here
- in cmd:

net localgroup administrators |clip

- paste here

Re: your suggestion above. I'm not entirely sure but if I use the above commands and paste results into a text file I just seems to report the same results as if I used

Start> Run>

type

netplwiz

Press Enter.

Users> Properties> Group Membership
