I believe it was after a recent Windows 7 update that I started having this issue: when I hit caps lock (often happens when hitting the A key) it closes whatever program window is open at the time. I was advised to use a key remapping utility, and so I used one to remap the key to something nondestructive, like a CTL or SHIFT key (keys which only work in combinations). This solves the problem for a short time, but after a short while (I think, after a restart) the problem reoccurs. I need a permanent solution to this. I also don't understand why it's happening in the first place, and would love to understand if it's a bug that came along with the most recent Windows update.

Hello Unseen and welcome to Seven Forums.

Uninstall your most recent updates. See if problem is corrected. If yes, reinstall updates one at a time. Updates are classified as Critical/Important, Recommended, and Optional. I'd reinstall them in that order rebooting after each update is installed. Yes, it's a slow process but if an update caused the problem you'll know exactly which update it is.

If uninstalling most recent updates does NOT correct the problem, try System Restore to return your computer to a date/time prior to when the problem began.

Please post back if any of this helped or not.
