Changing existing/newly account's profile folder not work perfectly

Hi,

While logging into another admin user account I tried copying and pasting the exiting user account.
First of all: Windows CardSpace was working well while the existing account's profile folder was still in the default location 'C:\'.

I was intending to Change an existing account's profile folder from the default location C:\ to another one. However, while pasting the existing account's profile folder from the C: to D: for instance, I found that 'Windows CardSpace' was a folder access denied as shown in this screen shot below.



I had to choose 'skip', then the copy process completed. Next, I continued changing the user account in the registry from C:\ to D:\

However, when the existing account was completely(in the Registry, and in the Windows explore) moved to the new location, I found opening Windows CardSpace gave me this error below, since it looks corrupted.





When changing back the existing account's profile folder to its default location 'C:', then Windows CardSpace' returned opening well.


What is the solution of the above problem? In my humble experience, there is no solution other than creating a newly user account. But, I don't want to do a newly user account I need to fix this one.


However, for Changing any newly user account's profile folder from default (C:\) to another one, no problem at all with Windows CardSpace since the account's profile folder is not yet created, and it will be created on the new location.


In addition::: This fault is for all existing accounts and newly accounts whose profile folders became on another location other than default C:

Even in device and printer, selecting Plugging external WD hard disk drive to my computer shows a different icon and detailed information for the HDD plugged while the existing account is on the default location 'C' as follows:


However, once existing account is on another location, the icon and information for the same HDD plugged to the PC are different as follows:

You can move the users to drive d, but it really a pain the neck to do. I assume everything works if it on C: with no problems. Why are wanting to move it to D: for? Are just wanting to move one user or all users? Anytime you create a new user profiles, almost everything is reset for that profile. For example the same Firefox profile folder that is used in user 1 won't be the same Firefox profile folder for user 2.



It is possible to move that folder or copy using the take ownership file to drive d but I don't think windows would recognize the cardspace on drive d: without some registry modification which I am not familiar with. You could leave the system unbootable if you are not careful.

First of all: This is my saying in the technique: Split your main hard drive into two partitions ...
"C:" for your system and "D:" (or another letter) for your 'special folders'.

Important: I don't only want to move each of these folders individually:

Documents
Downloads
Desktop
Pictures
Videos
Contacts
Favorites
Links
Music

Dropbox, SkyDrive, GoogDrive and son.

Windows Mail and Windows Live Mail.

Instead of that, I want to move all the folders(personal stuff) of all the user accounts all together into a data partition.(D)

As a result, I am expecting that the solution is to make another partition other than Windows partition(C). After that, I will go to 'Regedit' and move all the user accounts into new location.

The benefit of Changing all existing and newly user account's profile folders to another location is if your system wasn't able to boot due to unresolved reason, and whatever you tried to fix it, it made no difference. So, if your data(users) on the same partition where your System is, then you'd lose your data forever. However, if your data was on another partition, then you could re-install another System on the 'C:' partition where old OS crushed was. Then, you can get access to your data again once new operation system completes. Yes, it will not be compatible with your new system, but you finally get your stuff again.

Yes, I have succeeded in moving all exiting, and newly users from C to D by following Brink thread '
However, I don't know if Brink forgot to address these problems I mentioned happening after moving users from C to another location.

If moving users's profile folder from C to another one will not work perfectly. Put a hundred lines under 'perfectly' which means that there are not many problems happening after moving, but some problems which cannot be solved such the two ones I have mentioned. I detected these two problems(Windows cardSpace is corrupted only for existing account once existing account was on the new location, however, for newly user accounts changed to anther location, Windows CardSpace opens well.
We cannot reinstall the Windows CardSpace to solve the problem?????. Also, the other problem which with information shown under any HDD plugged to the PC.

Note: there are problems happening after moving the exiting user accounts, but I can solve them, like some programs do not work properly after changing existing account's profile folder, Such as corrupting the graphics adapter, however, I managed them by re installing graphics adapter driver.

Yes, I have tried separately taking ownership on that folder 'CardSapce' located on the D:\Users\User account name \AppData\Local\Microsoft\CardSpace', then I copied onto where the new user account's profile folder is. However, the Windows CardSpace is still not loading, and the same error persists in showing me.
I the end, You don't help me with at least a suggestion to solve these two problems.

I said, I am not familiar how to fix your issue because it will require registry edit and copying certain folders one at time to preserve data. I know how to do the copying part and it seems you know how do that as well. It the registry edit that going to be tricky and still may not work. As far as the registry edit, I am not familiar on how to do it. I will go ask for some help to see if someone has a better way to do want you want.

Hi, if this is only to create back up/recovery options for your files it will be best to use http://www.sevenforums.com/backup-restore/43219-image-your-system-free-macrium.html, moving already created user profile folder to different location is just asking for problems, IMHO.

CardSpace would contain information about credit card & ID & security info - it would be encrypted and accessible by the account that created it. Changing the location of the user account would stop it from decrypted.

Changing the location of user files or including them in Libraries is no problem. I have done it for years. The only issue you would have is if you used Windows Backup Imaging.

Yes, I realize that Windows CardSpace is encrypted and accessible by the account that created it.
However, I didn't see that Brink mentioned to fix such problems 'with CardSpace' and information shown under HDD plugged to a PC when moving all users from C to another location.

What you said if this is only to create back up/recovery options for your files it will be best to use Image your system with free Macrium, moving already created user profile folder to different location is just asking for problems, IMHO.', I think, is not reasonable for two reasons.
The first is no need to wast our time to apply steps in tutorials which will bring problems for us.
The other one is Making image by Macrium is good, but your personal stuff is updated/changed second by second while you're working on PC, so it is not reasonable to make image each second. However, if problem in the system happened before making image for your stuff while your stuff is on the System partition, then you will lost your stuff forever. So, the reasonable thing is moving all your personal stuff to another location other than system partition.
