Case upgrade advice needed

Yeah the fan arrangement sounds good.
Crazy I just checked the AMD site and it indeed states their own heatsink must be used. I don't think there is any way they could tell if you don't though. It is extremely rare for a CPU to fail in normal use though. I have two AMDs in other machines which I did some serious overclocking experiments with and they both still work fine. I have Cooler Master coolers on both of them.

I can't see how the heat sink and fan which come with it can actually keep it cool enough at all. Maybe I'm spoiled by the 120mm fan on the Gemin II !

Will start the assembly tonight, them switch over to my laptop before I shut this one down for the last time tomorrow , just in-case I get into trouble !

I never could see the logic in having a 60/80MM fan on a CPU heatsink either. I have 2 120MM fans on my Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO.

Only one small problem popped up, with the size of the PSU, the idea of a intake fan on the bottom of the case will not work.
So maybe putting another intake fan in the side panel would be the answer, then put a filter on it ?

Now for the top exhaust fan, would it work better in the rear position which is next to the rear exhaust fan or in the front position away from it ?

I'm asking these questions now as it is easier to work on the fans before much else gets in the way.

As long as you have at least one more intake than exhaust, assuming the same size, it should work out. for the top one I'd go the front position to help take away more heat from the CPU.

You're right getting the fans mounted first is a good idea so you're not working around the board after it's in.

Oh, yeah, I mount the bottom PSU so the fan is down, if the case has some little pads so it can exhaust OK.

The fans are all 140mm, is the side intake a go also ?

The PSU is in with the fan facing down, also had a silicone gasket to mount against the rear of the case, which I used.

Any last minute tidbits before I go full bore on this in the morning ?

I did call Corsair about the mem. and was assured it would fit. Got the same news when I called Cooler Master for the CPU cooler, no problem fitting with the MB or mem. location.

Take lots of pictures and take your time and enjoy the process. Placing the components goes quick but the wiring will take much longer. Also be careful as this is habit forming and the only know cure is the next build !

You are 100% right !

At first I only wanted a larger case because it was so ruff trying to put in the new CPU cooler with no room in the old case.

Then buying the new case, it would be easier to install a new PSU before wiring everything again,
Now I have more boxes of parts here than I think I need

But I will go slow and triple check everything before final steps.

When you start wiring go slow and route cables as best you can. Now study it well before you zip-tie anything down. You'll see places where that wire will fit better and be more concealed or just work better. It may take 2-3 or more times, then when it's ready, start the tying down process and you'll probably find even more "better" cable routes. I've even removed all cables and started over.

I'm sure you're anxious so you can power it up once you have it all connected to give it a shake down before fine-tuning the cabling. I understand what you mean about the "Running of the Cables" for taking time to do it. Adding the ties will be the very last thing to do.

You are right about wanting to get it together but, on the other hand it is not my only machine and I can get by without it for however long it takes.
In the meantime I have the backup laptop even though it is slow.

Have that second rig tuned to SF and ask any questions you need and or just use the web and the SF site for knowledge and inspiration. Remember what seems scary will all be worked out and don't expect to get everything nailed the first go. I'll almost guarantee that you'll be back inside the case multiple times after the finish of round one to tweak things....it's all good.

How do I safely ground myself to the MB with a strap ?

Is it best to install the CPU, cooler and mem. before putting the MB into the case ?

Hope I'm not too late. Install what you can to the board before putting it in the case, even some drive cables. Don't touch any contacts on RAM, cards or CPU.

No problem. CPU, heatsink, cooler, mem. and PSU are in.

I guess I will put the video card in also. Then install MB in the case.

Drives and cables can be put in later as there is plenty of room after taking the other side of the case off.
